(Scroll down for video) A man who was seen on video throwing away his money in public, said that he just wanted to cheer up other people.
The Minnesota man sent 1,000 $1 bills flying inside the Mall of America, to spread some holiday cheer, but he ended up receiving a fine from police.
Serge Vorobyov, 29, of Apple Valley said he had a “very tough year,” so he decided to make it snow money with his last $1,000 in order to spread a little holiday cheer on Friday afternoon.
Vorobyov dropped the cash over a railing on the third floor into the crowd below, as people were listening to the song “Let It Snow.”
The shoppers loved it, but the city police did not care about it, and he was issued a ticket for disorderly conduct. Police said that the man threw away his cash in order to win back his girlfriend.
“I do not see how holiday cheer is disorderly conduct,” he said.
Mall of America spokesperson Sarah Schmidt said it is the first time that someone has done something like this at the mall, but added that it was harmful and could have caused a serious situation.
