(Scroll down for video) A woman will spend five years behind bars after she stole hair from a wig shop while pushing her baby in a stroller, according to court proceedings in Maryland.
Gaithersburg City Police said that a local woman who stole hair from a wig shop, also got into a physical altercation with the owner of the store.
The attack occurred in September 2012. Surveillance video showed 19-year-old Yvonne Williams trying to fight with the shop owner behind the counter. Williams and her two accomplices are seen trying to steal more than $800 in hair weaves.
Williams hit the store owner in the head with her shoe. At some point during the altercation, the baby slipped out of the stroller.
“She used the baby as a cover to steal things from the store and try to make her escape,” Ramon Korionoff of the State Attorney’s office said. “It is despicable. It is even more worrying that a child fell from the baby carriage during the assault,” he said.
Williams was sentenced to five years in prison on Tuesday. One of her accomplices pleaded guilty to disorderly conduct and the other suspect’s case is still pending.
