(Scroll down for video) An argument between a couple ended with a man trying to throw his wife off a bridge.
Police said that Xavier McClinton, 47, of Mill Valley, California, was driving his car on the San Mateo-Hayward Bridge, when the couple got into an argument.
McClinton crashed his car into the barrier of the bridge in an attempt to go over the edge.
When the car hit the wall and would not go further, McClinton grabbed his wife, who is the mother of his three children, and force her out of the car.
He dragged his wife, who was identified as Nadia McClinton, to the edge of the bridge and attempted to throw her over the edge.
Other drivers, who witness the incident, ran to help the woman. They were able to grab her legs and pull her to safety.
McClinton however, went tumbling over the bridge, falling about 15 feet into the water.
He was rescued by the U.S. Coast Guard.
He was arrested and charged with attempted murder and domestic violence.
His wife was treated for a severe gash to the side of her mouth that required stitches.
Investigators said that in recent days McClinton had been showing signs of paranoia. McClinton feared that people were trying to break into his house and kill him.
