President of Argentina accuses the Jews of plotting terror attacks

Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner
By: Moses Gold

The President of Argentina has accused the Jews of her country of plotting terror attacks against the state, according to a statement released to the press.

After Argentina's Jewish community complained that the government of Iran is evading justice of the 1994 bombing of the Jewish community center, the president of Argentina accused the Jewish community of conspiring against Argentina.

Argentina's President, Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner, publicly attacked the head of the Jewish community in Buenos Aires, implying that he was in contact with a "foreign spy agency known for planning new terrorist attacks against Argentina."

Guillermo Borger, president of AMIA Jewish Center in Buenos Aires, said that the agreement between Argentina and Iran to create a commission to investigate the 1994 bombing of the center "will allow a third bombing in Argentina". In 1992, the Israeli embassy in Buenos Aires was bombed.

"This pact is seen by some as a step forward. This may be a step toward the precipice and will allow a third attack very unfortunately," Borger said.

The confrontation between Borger and Fernandez came to a head on collision on Saturday as the president went on national television airwaves and Twitter to defend the agreement.

"I read with concern the statements of Guillermo Borger, president of AMIA, in dealing with Iran. What does he know to make such a terrible statement?" Fernandez asked on Twitter. "If there was an attack planned in relation to the agreement with Iran, who is the mastermind and perpetrator?" She asked.

Liberal Democrat parliament member slammed after "the Jews" comment

MP David Ward
By: Shifra Unger

(Scroll down for video) A British Liberal Democrat parliament member is in hot water again after referring to the Jewish people as “the Jews”, according to press reports in the United Kingdom.

The MP has been called out after a fresh confrontation with party leaders amid a growing row over controversial comments he made about the atrocities committed by "the Jews.”

The party said that decisive action would be made against David Ward, after Jewish leaders demanded action after a meeting with the heads of the party designed to calm the anti-Jewish tensions.

The Bradford East MP was censured by the chief whip Alistair Carmichael last month. Ward also apologized for any hurtful comments he had made and issued a written promise not to repeat the reference.

However, the Board of Deputies of British Jews said that the apology had no credibility as the MP had not removed the offending message from his website and in the light of additional anti-Jewish comments.

According to press reports, Ward had asked if it would satisfy critics if the wording was changed to read "the Jewish community" instead of “the Jews”, prompting renewed complaints.

Carmichael and party executives called a meeting yesterday morning with officials of the Board and other bodies such as the Holocaust Educational Trust.

A joint statement issued by the groups after the meeting said that the new comments are treated like a new additional offense and Ward will be punished for it.

Anas said that in the past he had been arrested several times by Palestinian security forces for attempting to join the militant group Hamas, which rules the Gaza Strip, his father said.

His father said that the judge issued the sentence without calling Anas into the room, although he was waiting in another part of the building.

First ever Hebrew conference held in New Delhi India

Hebrew conference in New Delhi India
By: David Ross

The first ever Hebrew conference was held recently in South Asia, according to press reports in Israel.

By Dr. Navras Jaat Aafreedi

Tazpit News Agency For

Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi, made history when it organized a three-day international interdisciplinary conference on “Hebrew Language and Culture: Reception, Self Conception and Intercultural Relations” at the end of January, under the auspices of its Centre of Arabic & African Studies, School of Language, Literature and Culture Studies.

The conference was significant not only because it happened to be the first ever conference in South Asia to be focused on the Hebrew language, and that it took place at the Jawaharlal Nehru University whose students have been particularly forthcoming in demonstrating against Israel’s military operations, but also because it was largely organized by Muslim scholars at a time when Jews and Muslims are perceived as natural adversaries.

The Organizing Committee produced another example of Muslim-Jewish amity in India, by convening this conference, during which thirty-nine scholars, Jewish, Muslim as well as of other religious affiliations, from a dozen Indian and Israeli institutions, presented their papers in sixteen parallel sessions. Eight of the institutions were Israeli, including Ariel University. The rest of the institutions represented were Indian.

The session themes focused on literature and psychology; language and religion; names in ancient and modern Hebrew; Halakhah, Jewish identity and modernization; law and language; Hebrew, Aramaic and Arabic and the mutual influences; The language of the bible, as well as sessions held on the Indian Jews, and India in Hebrew Literature and Hebrew in India.

The Ambassador of Israel to India, Mr. Alon Ushpiz, in his keynote address, thanked the organizers from JNU and said that "the impressive depth of the discussions in the conference is a mirror image of the academic passion found in Israel for Indian culture, heritage, history and languages".

"The key to our mutual academic fascination" added Ambassador Ushpiz, "is the fact that both Israel and India have managed to preserve their ancient heritage while constantly moving forward with the rapidly changing world".

Professor M. A. Islahi, Dean of the School of Language, Literature and Culture Studies, gave the welcome address, while Dr. Khurshid Imam gave an introduction of the conference and pointed out that the conference aimed at exploring the different aspects of Hebrew: the language (classical as well as modern), the people and the culture. Several key personnel from the Embassy of Israel were also present on the occasion.

Jawaharlal Nehru University, the institution that hosted the conference, is currently the only Indian university that offers courses in the Hebrew language. Jewish and Holocaust Studies are absolutely non-existent in Indian academia in spite of a continuous Jewish presence in India for at least twelve centuries. The hope that this conference would generate greater interest in Hebrew among Indians was expressed by the participants.

Woman marries wearing wedding gown made out of bread tags

Stephanie Watson wearing bread tag wedding dress
By: Ryan Lee Hall

A woman has made herself a cheap yet adorable wedding dress to wear at her wedding, according to press reports the United Kingdom.

It has taken 10 years and 10,000 bread tags, but high school sweethearts Stephanie Watson and Will Wapling, finally got married.

She got married last month in a wedding dress that weighed seven kilos made of thousands of tags. Watson said that the wedding was well worth the wait.

Speaking from her home in Trentham yesterday, Watson said she began collecting bread tags a decade ago at age 19, and joked that when she collects enough labels to create a wedding dress, she and Wapling will marry.

Watson, now 29 and a fashion designer, said that making the wedding dress was not as difficult as expected, as the sewing machine sew successfully through the tags.

However, the designing of the gown took hundreds of hours.
"The most important in the design of the dress was that I did not want people to be able to think that the labels are sewn on. I wanted everything overlap, so they could not see the seam," Watson said.

The dress ended up costing only $36. Its sentimental value, however, is priceless.
With bread labels printed with best-by dates, the dress was a record for the many years the couple had been together, Watson said.

"I did not want to have a normal wedding dress," she said.
"There are many occasions when you can wear a dress. During a very special day I thought, why not have something completely insane?" She added.

While the wedding dress was a work of art, Wapling, a carpenter, was wearing a classic suit.
"I did not want to force him to wear anything silly," she laughed.
