The large sinkhole opened in the bedroom of a house near Tampa, trapping a 34-year-old inside the rubble.
The house collapsed on Thursday night in the suburb of Brandon. At dawn on Friday, officials of the Hillsborough County Fire Department determined the house had become too unstable to continue rescue efforts.

Engineering officials Friday morning returned with more sophisticated monitoring equipment to determine the actual diameter and depth of the sinkhole.

A spokesperson said that the man's brother was trying to get the man out of the sinkhole when sheriff deputies arrived. The first deputy on the scene pulled the brother out of the still collapsing hole. The spokesperson said the brother and the deputy were not injured.

Pizza hut worker lives as an imaginary police officer

Christopher Sharp
By: Sarah Weiss

A man was arrested after he lived as an imaginary police officer.

The 37-year-old had a police uniform which he put on everyday before he left his house for his real job at Pizza hut.

Christopher Sharp, from Spring Hill, Florida, was jailed after he allegedly pretended to be a police officer for several months because he wanted to impress his live-in girlfriend.

According to the Hernando County Sheriff's Office, Sharp wore a deputy's uniform for a period of several months and told stories about his various law enforcement duties, all to impress his girlfriend.

Sharp allegedly told his live-in girlfriend that he was an officer with the Pasco County Sheriff's Department.
Sharp took the ruse to an extreme level by dressing as a deputy every day before he went to work and then changing back into the uniform before he returned home.

In reality, according to investigators, Sharp was an employee at Pizza Hut.

Sharp told friends and family members that he was a deputy and often regaled them with stories of DUI arrests and various traffic stops he had made. Other times, Sharp gave legal advice, based upon his alleged vast experience and credentials gained with the Sheriff's Office.

Investigators said that Sharp acquired the uniform by stealing it from his sister's boyfriend who actually works for the Pasco County Sheriff's Office.

Detectives interviewed Sharp and arrested him after learning about his exploits.

Sharp, who unsuccessfully applied for a job with the Hillsborough Police Department, admitted to the ruse stating that he never actually performed any law enforcement duties while he was dressed in the stolen uniform.

Sharp was charged with impersonating a law enforcement officer. His bond was set at $2,000.

mysterious creature
By: Ryan Lee Hall

Can this be the work of different species of animals having sex with each other?

A mysterious creature washed ashore in Wales. The animal was spotted on the Tenby South Beach.

Peter Bailey, was walking his dog on the beach when he came across this weird looking dead animal.

Bailey was stunned by the discovery, took photographs and he sent it to the local press.

27-year-old Bailey, said that he was taking his dog for the evening walk along the beach when the dog started acting out by screaming and running around in circles.

Bailey ran to the dog to see if the dog was alright, that is when he saw the weird looking decomposing creature.

"I immediately thought it was a horse, but it had claws like a bear and a body of a pig," he said.

Some have suggested that the new creature is related to the Montauk Monster, a hairless beast which washed up on the beach in the Hamptons area of New York in 2008, leaving the wealthy area residents afraid to go into the water.

But the Pembrokeshire council claims that the weird looking creature was probably a dog who was affected by a prolonged period in water.

The council believes that a dog had probably been in the water too long and became bloated beyond recognition.

Turkish prime minister calls Zionism 'a crime against humanity'

Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan
By: Ryan Lee Hall

(Scroll down for video) The prime minister of Turkey this week called Zionism “a crime against humanity”, according to press reports in the United States.
Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan, in a speech in Vienna, described Zionism as "a crime against humanity".

"We should strive to better understand the culture and beliefs of others, but we see that people act based on prejudice, exclude others and belittle them," Erdogan was quoted by the press as saying, citing a simultaneous translation of the United Nations.

"That is why it is necessary to keep in mind, like Zionism, anti-Semitism or fascism, Islamophobia is a crime against humanity," he said.

Erdogan spoke Wednesday at the official opening of the fifth World Alliance of Civilizations Forum in Austria.
U.N. Watch, a group that monitors anti-Israel bias and violations of human rights, issued a statement slamming the U.N. Secretary General Ban Ki-moon, for his silence during those comments.

"Erdogan’s misuse of this global platform to incite hatred and his use of Ahmadinejad style pronouncements appealing to the lowest common denominator in the Muslim world, will only reinforce the belief that his government is bent to a confrontational position and fundamentally not willing to end its 4-year-old fight with Israel," U.N. Watch, said.

The group also said: "We remind the Secretary General Ban Ki-moon, that his predecessor, Kofi Annan, acknowledged that the 1975 U.N. Zionism is racism resolution was an expression of anti-Semitism and welcomed its repeal."

New study blames Israeli miscarriages to Gaza rocket attacks

House hit by Gaza rocket
By: Ryan Lee Hall

(Scroll down for video) A new study shows that Israeli women are suffering miscarriages due to the ongoing rocket attacks from the Gaza Strip, according to press reports in Israel.

By Anav Silverman

Tazpit News Agency For
YourJewishNews.com

This past week, researchers from Ben Gurion University shared a very important study, linking the rocket attacks from Gaza to the increased number of miscarriages in Sderot from 2004-2008.

The study, which was published in the Psychosomatic Medicine Journal of Biobehavioral Medicine found “statistically significant correlations” between exposure to life-threatening rocket attacks in Sderot and spontaneous abortions (more commonly known as miscarriages) and prenatal maternal stress.

The authors explain in the study that the Israeli southern town of Sderot had been the constant target of rocket fire from the Gaza Strip since 2001. Between April 2001 and December 2008, more than 1,000 rocket alarms were sounded in or near Sderot, with 500 of them during 2008 alone.

Out of the 1,132 women who took part in the study from Sderot, only seven had never experienced a siren six months before and during pregnancy.

The researchers, Tamar Wainstock and Professor Ilana Shoham-Vardi from the Department of Epidemiology, Faculty of Health Sciences at Ben Gurion and their colleagues, Dr. Liat Lerner-Geva and Saralee Glasser, both of the Gertner Institute at Tel Hashomer and Dr. Eyal Anteby of the Barzilai Medical Center in Ashkelon, compared two groups of women with similar health characteristics from Kiryat Gat and Sderot.

Wainstock told Tazpit News Agency that there was medical literature which had found associations between prenatal stress and adverse pregnancy outcomes from difficult situations including natural disaster, terror attacks, and war. “We thought that the women in Sderot might also suffer stress and felt that this must be studied,” Wainstock said.

The author also cited that the stress was reflected in the rise of prescriptions for anxiety medication across southern Israel in past years.

Kiryat Gat was chosen as the “unexposed” city that was compared with Sderot for several reasons. The city’s socioeconomic and demographic features were very similar to Sderot and pregnant women from both cities took part in the study at Ashkelon’s Barzilai Medical Center which serves both populations.

It is also important to note that during the time period that was chosen to record the women, Kiryat Gat was still out of rocket range, although during Operation Cast Lead and since then, the city has been the target of rocket attacks from Gaza as well.

The final study population included records of 3,488 pregnancies of 2937 women, 1,132 from Sderot and 1,805 from Kiryat Gat. It was found that women in Sderot exposed to the stress of a rocket environment had higher rates of miscarriages than women in Kiryat Gat who did not suffer from that kind of stress(6.9% verses 4.7%).

The perceived stress level among Sderot women was also higher, with the exposed group scoring 4.36 on the stress questionnaire and the unexposed group, 3.05.

“The findings demonstrate a significantly increased risk of SA among women exposed to potentially life-threatening situations for a prolonged period, both before and during pregnancy, compared with women of similar demographic characteristics who were not exposed to missile-attack alarms or missile attacks,” the authors wrote.

The researchers theorized that one possible reason for miscarriages was an increase in Cortisol due to the stress. They suggested that it was important to assess the level of stress among women at the very early stages of pregnancies and in couples trying to conceive.

Wainstock also added that she believed that the study was important because “it may be relevant to many women, especially since rocket attacks and alarms have been sounded in much wider ranges [across southern Israel] since 2008.”

Anav Silverman lived for two years in the city of Sderot, Israel where she experienced constant rocket attacks on the city working as an international media liaison and frontline reporter between 2007-2009.

Mido Macia dragged behind police vehicle
By: Eva Fett

(Scroll down for video) Several police officers were caught on video tying and dragging a suspect behind a police vehicle until he died, according to video uploaded to the internet.

They tied his hands to the back of a van and then sped off, dragging the thin taxi driver along the road as a crowd of onlookers shouted in dismay. The death of the man was later confirmed by emergency workers.

The heartbreaking video of the scene is even more worrying because the men who abused the suspect are South African uniformed police officers and the van was a marked police vehicle.

The graphic scenes of the victim fighting for his life shocked a nation accustomed to police violence.
A South African newspaper published a video on Thursday and the video was quickly picked up by other news agencies in South Africa and carried over the Internet. This caused immediate outrage.

"They are there for safety, but we as a people are more afraid of them," Johannesburg resident Alfonso Adams, said. "You do not know who to trust," he added.

Some of the people in the crowd who watched the scene unfold in Daveyton township east of Johannesburg shouted to the police and warned them that they are being video recorded.

The police did not seem at all concerned by all the witnesses and the presence of the cameras as they tied Mido Macia, 27-years-old, from neighboring Mozambique, on the back of a police car, with his hands behind his head. At least three police officers were involved in the incident. Macia was found dead in a police cell later that day.
