Hitler suit
By: Sarah Weiss

A man was arrested and charged with hate crimes related charges after dressing up at a party like Nazi leader Adolf Hitler, according to court proceedings in Sweden.

The man wore an armband with a swastika, a dark suit and a toothbrush mustache when he appeared at a costume party in a pub in south central Jonkoping in Sweden, last year.
The man admitted using the swastika-armband, but denied doing so out of hate to Jews.

The Jonkoping District Court agreed and ruled that the man had no criminal intention or to be disrespectful by dressing as the Nazi leader.

The man's lawyer had expected his client to be acquitted of the hate crime charges.
"My client went to a costume party and the point was not to express any political or other opinion,” the man’s lawyer said.
However, the 24-year-old was convicted of weapons charges for having a gun and a shotgun in his apartment.

Jews in Malmo Sweden hold 'kippah walk' to fight anti-Semitism

Melmo Sweden kippah walk
By: Shifra Unger

(Scroll down for video) The Jewish community in Malmo, Sweden, is holding regular ‘kippah walk’ events in order to fight anti-Semitism in Malmo, Sweden, according to press reports in Sweden.

Video cameras and heavily secured doors greet visitors as they approach the Malmo Jewish community center. Once inside, appointments are made with a secretary who sits behind a thick bulletproof glass.

Security has been strengthened in the building, located in central Malmo, following an explosion last September that led to arrests and was classified as a hate crime by local police.

The attack was only one in a long string of anti-Semitic incidents that have become increasingly common in the third largest city of Sweden. Even the city's long sitting mayor, Ilmar Reepalu, who recently announced his plans to resign, has been dogged by accusations of anti-Semitism.

But Malmo’s small Jewish population is fighting back. Amid the broken glass and the reports of the persecution, the incidents are being used as a catalyst for change that involves not only local Jews, but also the general population.

Malmo’s Jewish community center has about 600 members, among an estimated total population of 2,500 Jews.
The community began organizing regular kippah walks in Malmo, as a response to the persistent anti-Semitism.

"The use of the kippah is not just a protest against anti-Semitism, but also a revival of Jewish self-confidence," a Jewish community member explained.

A recent Malmo kippah walk had a healthy participation of people from all parts of the city. Many are motivated to show their support for local Jews after media reports of harassment and intimidation.Mobile video not loading? Click here to view

Nearly half of all Austrians say Hitler was not that bad

Adolf Hitler
By: Shifra Unger

A large percentage of Austrian residents said recently that Adolf Hitler was not that bad, according to a new study released last week.

An Austrian study found that 42 percent of respondents said that "not everything was bad under Adolf Hitler", when the Nazi government had annexed Austria 75 years ago.

The survey also found that 54 percent of the 502 respondents said that a Nazi party would have success in today's democratic elections and that 61 percent support the concept of a "strong man" as a leader.

The survey was commissioned by a local Austrian newspaper and reported by the main Austrian press agency on Friday.
The Institut market survey organization gave no margin of error, but polls of this size sometimes have a margin of error of plus or minus 4 percentage points.

Even when considering an error of 4 percent the numbers reveal a worsening anti Jewish situation in Austria, according to Jewish leaders.

Four men jailed after digging up women’s corpses and selling them as ‘ghost brides’

Graves in China
By: John Roberts

Four men were arrested after violating female corpses by digging them up and selling the bodies, to be married in ghost weddings.

It's every parent’s worst nightmare when a child dies at a young age.
All hopes and dreams they had for their child to get married is gone.

Or so they thought. A group of thugs dug up the bodies of single women and then sold them to single men.

The practice of "ghost marriage" is popular in the provinces of Shaanxi, China, where families arrange a deceased woman to be buried with a deceased unmarried man so they can be buried together and have a wedding in the afterlife.

Under normal circumstances, relatives of the deceased woman agree to have the body buried with the man for an agreed upon fee.
But in this case, the criminals dug up the body without the permission or knowledge of the families.

The group of four men made almost $40,000 from selling ten bodies of dead women to families of deceased single men for ghost marriage rituals, according to press reports.

The men were sentenced to between 28 to 32 months in prison for theft of corpses.

Grandson of Jewish man considers run to replace Chavez in Venezuela

Henrique Capriles Radonski
By: David Ross

The grandson of a Jewish man who already received 45 percent of the vote in Venezuela against Chavez, is considering another run for the vacant seat after the opposition party voiced support for his candidacy, according to press reports in Venezuela.

The former presidential candidate with can run again for the highest office in Venezuela, the opposition said Saturday as the date for new elections was set.

The coordinator of the opposition coalition, Ramon Guillermo Aveledo, immediately after the election date announcement, offered his party’s presidential candidacy to Henrique Capriles Radonski, who is currently the Miranda state governor who lost to Chavez in October. An aide said that governor Capriles will announce his decision shortly.

The electoral commission announced on Saturday that Venezuelans would vote next month to elect a successor to Hugo Chavez.
The Constitution states that elections must be held within 30 days of the death of the president, but the current timing falls outside that period.

The socialist government critics have complained that the authorities violated the constitution by swearing in Vice President Nicolas Maduro, as interim leader Friday night.

Some people have speculated that Venezuela will not be ready to organize the vote in time, but Tibisay Lucena said the national system of electronic voting was fully prepared.
Lucena announced the date on state television last week.

Capriles, who won 45 percent of the vote against Chavez last year in elections in Venezuela, is the grandson of Holocaust survivors. He has said: "my mother’s four grandparents were murdered in Treblinka.” He also said: my grandmother, who was in the Warsaw Ghetto taught me not to hate anyone."

(Scroll down for video) Your faux fur clothing may be worth more than you thought.

N.Y. State Assembly member Linda B. Rosenthal, D-Manhattan, and the Humane Society, have conducted an undercover investigation, which led to the discovery showing some "faux fur" labeled clothing actually contain dog hair, raccoon hair as well as fur of other animals.

Some of these falsely labeled fur items were sold at the Century 21 department stores. Others were sold online among other places.

Assemblywoman Rosenthal along with the Humane Society visited several 21st Century stores to check out the faux fur jackets.

After some laboratory testing, they found the fur trimmed garments were labeled incorrectly.

It was determined that the trim of some jackets which were made in China, were actually made from raccoon, dog and rabbit hair, according to the Humane Society.

Century 21 claim they are not responsible for the mislabeling.
The have released a statement saying: “Century 21 does not create garment labels, the manufacturers do."

Under the federal Fur Products Labeling Act, all clothing trimmed with animal fur must have a tag that provide the name of the animal from which the garment is made as well as the country in which the animal was killed. It is a violation of the law to misidentify the species of animal fur.

IDF rejects claims that Iron Dome system is a failure

Iron Dome missiles attack Gaza rocket
By: Ryan Lee Hall

(Scroll down for video)After some press reports emerged last week the Israel's Iron Dome missile defense system is a failure source slammed the reports as unfounded, according to press reports in Israel.

By Arie Egozi / i-HLS.com

Tazpit News Agency For

"It’s like trying to perform an operation on a patient with closed eyes” one Israeli expert said in response to a ” scientific report” claiming that the “Iron Dome” rocket interceptor achieved a very low kill rate in the recent operation in Gaza. Official reports state that during operation "Pillar of Defense" the system intercepted approximately 85% of the rockets launched from Gaza.

According to a report prepared by Theodore Postol, Dr. Mordechai Shefer, and an unnamed scientist who worked for Iron Dome’s manufacturer and was quoted in Haaretz daily, the Iron Dome system shot down only 5% of its targets.

The report claims that the Israel defense forces (IDF) statements about the high kill rate resulted from confusion about the explosion that often occurred as the missile approached its target. ”In the vast majority of the cases, the explosion was that of the missile self-destructing after detecting that it would not strike the incoming Palestinian rocket.”

The experts also note a wide discrepancy between the number of damage claims submitted by Israeli civilians (3,200) and the number of rockets the IDF concedes struck populated areas (58). The Israeli police reported 109 incidents in which they investigated damage caused by Palestinian rockets, which is double the number that the IDF claims.

Israeli sources familiar with the Iron Dome operation said that what they call ”amateur research ” was made in the most strange way by sitting at home and watching videos on YouTube, ” A research like this is possible only if you have all the raw material in your possession, including videos and radar data ” one of the experts said.

The sources added that the report will probably be used by the supports of a laser based rocket interceptor system. “Even if we pour billions of dollars into that effort, such an operational laser system will be operational only in 2030. The incoming rockets will not wait.”

They further added that the huge interest in the Iron Dome system is some countries that viewed the real data serves as further proof that this report is based on “something that is firm like a piece of paper.” In the video below you can see how numerous missiles fired from Gaza disappear from the sky.Mobile video not loading? Woman sues after Google search attached Levitra to her name

Beverly Stayart
By: Debbie Gross

A woman slapped a lawsuit on Google after the search engine offered Levitra after typing her name into the Google search section, according to court proceedings in Illinois.

Now, a federal appeals court dismissed her lawsuit that alleged that Google was using her name to generate revenue through online advertising.

Beverly Stayart, claimed that if someone started writing in a Google search term using her name, Bev Stayart, the search engine offered "Bev Stayart levitra" as a search term. Accepting the suggestion led to announcements of Levitra and other erectile dysfunction treatments, she said.

She alleged that Google was making money using her name without her permission.
The U.S. Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals in Chicago rejected her claim and ruled that Google had done nothing wrong.

A trial judge dismissed the lawsuit in 2011. District Judge Lynn Adelman wrote that search term Stayart, had no commercial value and that Google does not receive any value from the relationship between the name and the sexual dysfunction drugs.

Wisconsin law protects against unauthorized commercial exploitation of a person's name. However, the connection between the name and the commercial interest must be substantial, not accidental, Adelman said.

She also wrote that it was not illegal for Google to use someone's name for the purpose of communicating information.
"The fact that typing in the woman’s name results in Levitra popping up is only the result of other users having done so in the past," Adelman wrote.

Stayart argued that her name does have significant commercial value because she is a popular animal rights activist.
"Even if Google's use of her name was substantial, it still would fall under the public interest exception," the court opinion, said.

Stayart responded that the decision was "economically driven". She accused the court of ignoring the law in favor of big business and said she would appeal the ruling again.

Bee venom destroys HIV new study shows

By: Eva Fett

(Scroll down for video) The fight against HIV just took a major step forward as bee venom was used to destroy HIV particles, according to a new study recently released.

Researchers at Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri, said on Friday that bee venom could be used to deliver a fatal attack to human immunodeficiency virus or HIV, according to results of a new study.

The study showed that melittin, a toxin found in the venom, can help penetrate the protective layer surrounding HIV particles and then destroy it.

"We are attacking an inherent part of HIV," research professor Dr. Joshua L. Hood, one of the study's authors, said in a statement. "Theoretically, there is no way for the virus to adapt to that. The virus has to have a protective layer, a bilayer membrane covering the virus," the researcher added.

The study by Hood and his team, published in the journal of Antiviral Therapy on Thursday, said their findings indicate melittin-loaded nanoparticles have the potential to be used against HIV infections that have resisted treatment through medication, as it can be injected into the body of a patient intravenously.

University officials said the study also points to the development of a vaginal gel that could stop the spread of HIV, which causes AIDS.

"Our hope is that in places where HIV is running rampant, people could use this gel as a preventative measure to stop the initial infection," Hood said.Mobile video not loading? Click here to view
