Obama to eat kosher for Passover during upcoming Israel visit

Obama enjoying a delicious sandwich
By: Shifra Unger

Barack Obama definitely did not see this coming.

U.S. President Obama will have to observe a strict kosher for Passover diet on his visit to Jerusalem, Israel, later this month.
The strict dietary restrictions are due to the time of his arrival, which coincides with the Jewish holiday of Passover.

The historic King David Hotel in Jerusalem, where president Obama will stay, will only have a strict kosher for Passover menu.
Passover commemorates the story of the Exodus, in which the ancient Israelites were freed from slavery in Egypt.

Jews celebrate the occasion by eating unleavened bread, known as matzah while avoiding foods containing barley, wheat, rye or oats.
Hotel staff said that they will not be able to make an exception for the presidential party.

Obama and his advisers can expect their menu to be loaded with vegetables, while pasta dishes will remain off the menu.
"We are used to accommodate the heads of state and U.S. presidents as well, but this situation is very unique to us as it is so close to Passover," the manager of the hotels, Dror Danino, told a local Israeli newspaper.

The diet may prove to be difficult for Obama, who has been known to enjoy rich foods.

San Francisco officials slam pro Israel advertisements as anti Muslim

New anti jihad advertisements in San Francisco
By: David Ross

(Scroll down for video) Activist Pamela Geller recently began running advertisements on San Francisco public transportation warning about the risk of Muslim Jihad, according to press reports in California.

San Francisco city buses began carrying the advertisements on Monday and were immediately denounced by several political leaders as an anti-Islamic crusade. Those officials claim that the advertisements are unjustly racist against Muslims as the group is defined by extremism and violence.

Instead of trying to block the advertisements from San Francisco transit, the city accepted the paid advertisements and avoided a risk of a long legal battle for the rights of free speech. City officials said that there would be a public service campaign preaching tolerance and peace.

The bus advertisements were paid for by the American Freedom Defense Initiative or AFDI, the same group behind a similar campaign in New York last year that dealt with the Arab-Israeli conflict as a war between the civilized man and the savage.

"To support the civilized man, Support Israel. Defeat Jihad," the advertisement stated.
But Scott Wiener, a member of the San Francisco Board of Supervisors who described himself as the only Jewish elected official in the city, said that the AFDI was engaged in a kind of anti-Semitic campaign.

"The Jewish people suffered from stereotypes and caricature," he said. "We as a community need to stand shoulder to shoulder against these horrible messages," he told a press conference at City Hall.

"While some courts have found that these advertisements can have the privilege of the First Amendment, that does not mean that we cannot condemn them," said San Francisco Board of Supervisors President, David Chiu, a former civil rights lawyer.

District Attorney George Gascon said: "We are here to send a clear message that San Francisco will not tolerate Islamophobic intolerance.”Mobile video not loading? Click here to view

(Scroll down for video) 2 highly experienced air force pilots died after their helicopter crashed minutes before landing, according to a statement made by Israeli military officials.

The two Air Force pilots, Noam Ron, 49, from Oranit, and Erez Flekser, 31, from Herzliya, died in the helicopter crash in southern Revadim Gedera area on Tuesday. Contact with Cobra helicopter was lost on Monday night which led military forces to initiate a search.

Air Force Commander General Amir Eshel ordered the creation of a military commission for a special inquiry. The victims' families have been notified.

At about 1:00 am, a citizen driving on Highway 3 reported seeing a large object falling through the air in a wheat field near Kibbutz Revadim. Magen David Adom and Israeli Defense Forces from the rescue units were called to the scene.

Additionally, Air Force planes searched the area. Around 5:00 am, part of the propeller of the helicopter was found. Earlier, defense officials speculated that the helicopter had fallen into a water tank in the area where more helicopter remains could be found.

Air Force sources said that since the two pilots were highly experienced, it is likely that the accident was caused by a technical failure.

Air Force Commander General Amir Eshel arrived on the scene and met with the research team investigating the circumstances behind the accident. He grounded all Cobra helicopters until the investigation is completed.

The Israeli army said that the helicopter had left a base in central Israel for a routine training flight along with another helicopter that returned to Palmachim base.

During the training excercise contact with the helicopter was lost. The last communication from the pilots was that there are just a few minutes left until landing. The helicopter did not explode in the air, but it crashed into the ground.

Defense attorney for Muslim terrorist demands Jew free jury

Abdel Hameed Shehadeh
By: Ryan Lee Hall

(Scroll down for video) A Jewish defense attorney for a Muslim terrorist is demanding a Jew free jury, according to court proceedings in Brooklyn, New York.

The attorney is whipping up an offensive plan to defend an accused terrorist in Brooklyn federal court, to get rid of the Jews.
Attorney Frederick Cohn asked a judge today to prohibit Jews from the jury in the case against Abdel Hameed Shehadeh, who is accused of lying about trying to join jihadists in Pakistan.

"Since there will be inflammatory testimony about Jews and Zionism, I think it would be difficult for Jews to be impartial," Cohn, who is himself Jewish, said.

"The U.S. Jewish community is strongly aligned with Israel and Zionism. Here's a guy who is a Muslim, who opposes those things," he added.
The controversial issue of banning Jews first emerged during a recent court hearing.

"Your Honor, as you know, I'm not crazy about having Jews on the jury in this case," Cohn told Eric Vitaliano, a Brooklyn federal judge, last month.

Federal prosecutors William Sarratt and James Loonam, slammed the proposal.
"I do not think that we are ready to violate the constitution and exclude people from the jury on the basis of their religious beliefs," the prosecutor told the judge.

Magistrate Judge Levy will begin jury selection this week.Mobile video not loading? Click here to view

Israel Creates Virtual Embassies in throughout the Middle East

Netanyahu holds press conference
By: Ryan Lee Hall

In an innovative way to connect with young Muslims in the Middle East and around the world Israel built several so called virtual embassies, according to press reports in Israel.

By Anav Silverman

Tazpit News Agency For

Utilizing new media technology, Israel is developing innovative ways to extend hands of friendship to countries in a volatile Middle East.

“We are exploring government, people and societies … trying to skip over the borders and using the new media to create virtual embassies," which speak directly to those in the Arab world, said Foreign Ministry director-general, Rafael Barak, at the inaugural ceremony of the 13th annual Herzliya Conference on Monday, March 11.

Addressing the regional trends impacting Israel, Barak related that “we live in a region in a state of constant instability and it is our assessment that this instability will continue for many more years.” Despite this, the Israel Ministry of Foreign Affairs continues to locate potential friends in the region, while trying to find “frenemies” among Israel’s enemies and exploring how different governments relate to one another.

Barak remarked that the Israel must not only be aware of the threats that exist in the region, but also of certain population sectors that seek friendship. “We must contend with the people around us, looking at the new strategic threats, including the large concentration of chemical weapons in Syria, Hezbollah and Hamas activity, as well as Kurdish populations and other minorities looking for our friendship and trying to draw close to Israel,” he stated.

Regionally, “the characteristics of peace have almost disappeared” said Barak. However, he stressed that the situation with Jordan was better, noting that Israel has an embassy there and is “doing a lot of things with visibility… and under the radar.”

“We always look for opportunities [in the region] … We hope an opportunity will come from Syria…[and] are trying to open doors wherever possible and provide humanitarian assistance wherever possible.”

In regard to the situation in Egypt, Barak emphasized the necessity for Israel to “maintain peace agreements with Egypt in light of the instability and internal situation.” He said that the Foreign Ministry was maintaining a “mobile ministry” which traveled to and from Egypt weekly, rather than maintaining a permanent embassy in an unstable and dangerous area.

Regarding the Palestinian issue, Barak said “the Palestinians are looking for the international stage and we are being challenged there … we are preparing for the future.” He added that the ministry was “active in international forums so that the world will receive our activities with understanding … we’re trying to prevent flotillas and flightillas.”

(Scroll down for video) A U.S. state was charged with securities fraud for only the second time in history, according to a statement by the Securities and Exchange Commission.

The Securities and Exchange Commission and the Illinois state government have reached an agreement on charges that the state defrauded investors by failing to provide adequate information about their pension funds.

The SEC, which announced the charges in a filing, said that the fraud occurred between 2005 and 2009, when the state sold $2.2 billion in bonds without disclosing the impact of problems with financing pensions. There were no fines or sanctions against the State, as part of the agreement.

"Municipal investors are no less entitled to full disclosure than ordinary investors," George S. Canellos, acting director of the Division of Enforcement of the SEC, said. "Again and again, Illinois did not inform its investors about the risk of the bonds in its financial statement presented," the SEC added.

The agency said Illinois issued a corrective disclosure in 2009. The state agreed to settle the SEC allegations without admitting any wrongdoing. A statement from Illinois said the deal is in the best interest of everyone involved and that it had cooperated with the investigation.Mobile video not loading? Click here to view

(Scroll down for video) A couple had to endure losing custody of their children and being registered on a sex registry list after a Walmart employee looked at their private pictures which showed their little girls taking a bath, according to court proceedings in Arizona.

The Arizona couple is suing Walmart U.S. stores after being falsely accused of taking pornographic photos of their three daughters.

Lisa and Anthony Demaree lost custody of their children for a month and said they spent more than $75,000 in legal fees as a result of the case.

It all started in 2008 when the Demarees took some holiday photos to develop at their local Walmart store.
A Walmart employee expressed concern with the store manager on several bath time pictures the couple had taken of their daughters, who were 18 months, 4 and 5-years-old.

Instead of getting their happy photos, the couple was reported to the police and their children were taken into custody of the Bureau of Child Protective Services in Arizona.

A medical examination of the girls showed no signs of sexual abuse and a month later, a judge ruled that the photos were innocent and not child pornography.

The Demarees regained custody of their children, but in the meantime, had to bear their name being included in the sex offender registry.

Lisa Demaree was also suspended from her job at a local school for a year, while the investigation was ongoing.
"We have lost a year of life with our children," Lisa Demaree told a television news station.

Recently, the family's lawyer argued that Walmart committed fraud by failing to inform customers that the employees are reviewing photographs.

The lawsuit also claims negligence by untrained employees who were given the authority to make assumptions about the content of the images and report them to the police, the lawyer said.

Walmart has argued that employees are immune from prosecution.Mobile video not loading? Click here to view

By: Moses Gold

Happy to find a beautiful gift wrapped item on the street? Hold it for a moment. It might be a human skull inside, at least if you live in Brazil.

Police in the Brazilian city of Sao Paulo are baffled after someone has been leaving gift wrapped human skulls across the city.
Detective Paul Henry Bozon Verduraz described the case to a local newspaper in an article published this week.

The first skull was found in cherry red wrapper late last month in a pot near a residential building in the center of the city. Since then, seven others have been found near Mormon temples or consulates, including Russia, the Czech Republic and South Africa. The skulls are old, with dirt on them.

Verduraz said that security cameras in the areas captured images of a woman in a skirt to the ankles leaving skulls that look old, with dirt. He thinks this may be part of some kind of ritual.
