By: Sarah Weiss

(Scroll down for video) Two young boys saved a baby’s life by coaching a mother on how to perform CPR on her baby.

Who knew that children actually read the CPR posters on the walls of the school.

Well, 10-year-old Ethan Wilson, and 9-year-old Rocky Hurt, did just that. They learned how to do CPR which came in handy when 12-week-old Isaiah Rohm was found not breathing.

Susanna Rohm was playing with her 12-week-old son, when he suddenly stopped breathing. The mother started screaming for help.
The two boys were playing football in the street when they heard screaming for help so they rushed to help in any way possible.

When they arrived, Rohm was trying to do CPR on her baby. When the boys saw the mother doing it wrong they stepped in and
gave Rohm clear instructions for proper CPR techniques.

"I told her to push on the baby’s chest 5 to 10 times with only two fingers, tilt back the baby’s head, plug the baby’s nose and breathe into the baby’s mouth," Hurt said..

Within minutes, Isaiah was breathing and crying. He was taken to hospital for an examination and has been diagnosed with sleep apnea. The baby spent two nights in the hospital and will continue to be monitored.

The boys who live in a small Georgia town are heroes after teaching the mother to use CPR to save the life of her baby.

(Scroll down for video) Just a few days after the appointment of the new pope there are reports of warm relations between the pope and Rome’s Jewish community, according to press reports in Italy.

On the very first day of being appointed pope, Pope Francis approached the Jewish community of Rome and said he hopes to build good relations between the two religions.

The city's Chief Rabbi, Riccardo Di Segni, has accepted the invitation of the new Pope to attend the inaugural mass.
Di Segni is cautiously optimistic that the Catholic leadership could help in the Middle East.

"The Vatican is present in that region. It is involved in the conflict and not as a neutral entity. If it can maintain reasonable conversations with a peaceful resolve, then it is welcome," Di Segni said.

Only a stone's throw from the Vatican, the Portico d'Ottavia district is in the center of the Jewish community.
A local woman said: "Everyone has their faith, their religion and belief. But one can talk to others. Of course, one must be humble enough to do that."

Jews and Muslims work out together
By: Shifra Unger

(Scroll down for video) A Jewish movie maker formed a successful organization that brings together Muslims and Jews for one common goal, to lose weight, according to press reports in the United States.

The new weight loss program has been launched in various U.S. states in order to break ethnic barriers between Muslims and Jews, while helping them fight against obesity.

"We are not a peace-dialogue group and not a group for conflict resolution," Yael Luttwak, a documentary movie maker, 40, who founded the first group, told a New York newspaper.

"But we're bringing dialogue and exposure," she added.
Luttwak has created a group called “Slim Peace” that is bringing young Jews and Muslims together for a common goal of weight loss, healthy living and empowerment.

Inspired by the Middle East conflict, Luttwak, was out to find a formula to use women who struggle with their weight as a tool for connecting Israelis and Palestinians.

There are also plans to expand Slim Peace to other U.S. cities like Chicago, Cleveland, Detroit and Washington, all of which have significant Muslim and Jewish populations.

Although there are no official figures, the U.S. is believed to be home to about eight million Muslims.
A 2010 report by the North American Jewish Data Bank puts the number of Jews in the U.S. around 6.5 million.Mobile video not loading? Click here to view

Abbas says Hamas is not a terror organization

Mahmoud Abbas
By: David Ross

(Scroll down for video) Abbas told a television news station that Hamas is not a terror organization, according to video uploaded to the internet.

Hamas is committed to peaceful resistance and there is no need to label it a terrorist organization, the Palestinian president, Mahmoud Abbas, said.

In an exclusive interview with Russia Today Weekend, the Palestinian president, responded to reports that the European Union is considering taking Hamas off the terrorist list.

"The chances are quite high that the Hamas government is recognized as legitimate. If Hamas is committed to the ceasefire and if it openly agrees to stick to the peaceful popular resistance, I do not see much difference between their policy and ours. In this case, there is no need to label them as a terrorist organization," Abbas said.

He praised the upgrade of Palestine at the United Nations as a great achievement for the Palestinian people, saying that he hopes a solution will be found through peaceful means as violence will only lead to the destruction of Palestine. He warned, however, that if Israel's policy on settlements in the West Bank remains unchanged, it remains non negotiable.

"All Arabs and Muslims are ready to have peace with Israel. Arabs will not attack Israel after its withdrawal from the occupied territories," he said.

Abbas also rebuked Arab countries after failing to send millions of dollars to the Palestinian Authority once a month they have committed to.

Israel to declare itself the national Jewish state for Jewish people

Jews voting in Israel's latest election
By: Ryan Lee Hall

After the swearing in ceremony of the new Israeli parliament, Israel will declare itself the national Jewish state of the Jewish people, in order to underline the Jewish nature of the State of Israel, according to press reports in the United States.

The move is likely to be denounced by the E.U. and some leftist elements within Israel, as undermining Israel's democratic principles, while generating allegations of official discrimination against Muslims, who constitute about 20 percent of the Israeli population.

The proposed legislation was introduced after an agreement between Benjamin Netanyahu’s Likud, Yisrael Beiteinu and the ultra-nationalist Jewish Home party, which will be part of a new coalition government along with two centrist parties.
It will be enshrined in the Basic Law of Israel, the country's equivalent of a constitution, and establish the State of Israel as the national state of the Jewish people.

"This legislation will not be seen as democratic according to normal standards," Tamar Hermann, senior researcher at the Israel Democracy Institute, said. "People who advocate it say that as long non-Jewish citizens of Israel have rights as an individual, it is Kosher, she added.

A similar bill introduced in 2011 by Avi Dichter, former head of Shin Bet, the domestic intelligence agency of Israel, was shelved amid a scandal over the provisions including the recognition of Hebrew as an official language.

Bakery shut down after sugar and fat found in sugar free and fat free goods

Butterfly Bakery Inc. muffins
By: Debbie Gross

A bakery was busted for selling sugar filled and fat stuffed baked goods as sugar free and fat free items, according to government officials.

Federal authorities shut down the New Jersey bakery after finding sugar in their "sugar free" goods and saturated fat in their "fat" free goods, the Food and Drug Administration said Friday.

Butterfly Bakery Inc., of Clifton, New Jersey, who advertised their products as "Made with 100% Love", was closed on Wednesday after a federal judge approved a permanent injunction against the establishment.

The bakery was accused of illegally misbranding products as "sugar free" and "fat free" when they were up to three times the amount of sugar and twice the declared amount of saturated fat, according to an FDA statement.

"They have had repeated violations," FDA spokesperson Tamara Ward told the press on Friday. "This is when we take action," she added.

Butterfly Bakery said on its Facebook page that it had been under scrutiny by the FDA for nearly two years to correct the problem. It also said that three of its 45 items were cited for problems.

Man shoots his finger in order to remove his wedding ring

A man attempted to shoot off his wedding ring from his finger after a fight with his wife, according to hospital officials in Pennsylvania.

Now, the federal prison guard has been charged with shooting his own finger in an attempt to remove his wedding ring during an argument with his wife at his home in northwestern Pennsylvania, police said.

A criminal complaint said that Bradford Police were called to a home at around 9:00 pm and were greeted by Alfredo Malespini III, 31, who told officers he was trying to get rid of his wedding ring and decided to shoot it off.

The shot shattered Malespini’s finger, but did not remove the ring, police said.
At the time of the shooting in Bradford, which is near the border of New York about 130 miles northeast of Pittsburgh, Malespini worked as a lieutenant in the McKean Federal Correctional Institution, a medium security prison a few miles away.

Vicky Moser, who is the executive assistant at the prison, said she could only confirm that Malespini is still employed as a lieutenant in the prison, but could not comment on whether he has been suspended or has otherwise taken any leave.

Bradford police Lieutenant Steve Caskey told the press that he is still seeking treatment in Erie, Pennsylvania.
Malespini was taken to UPMC Hamot Hospital where he was treated for the gunshot wound, mental and emotional problems, Caskey said.

Police have been called to the Malespini residence a couple of times above for domestic conflicts, but Caskey said that Malespini has never been charged with a crime before.

On the day of the shooting, Malespini had been drinking quite a lot all day and he and his wife had been arguing all day about an affair he had had for several months, Caskey said.

Malespini has been charged with disorderly conduct and was cited for firing a weapon within city limits, but he is also charged with reckless endangerment, a misdemeanor of the second degree punishable by up to two years in prison.

No one else was injured in the shooting.

A Greyhound bus ride in New York City on Friday turned into a horror movie for passengers who were suddenly swarmed by a cockroach invasion that forced the driver to stop and evacuate the vehicle.

The cockroaches began to emerge about 15 minutes after the bus departed from Atlantic City, New Jersey, on Friday morning, a spokesperson for Greyhound, said.

The driver then stopped the infested bus and the 48 bus passengers waited for a replacement vehicle.
Cell phone photos showing armies of cockroaches running around on the seats and floor were published by the local press, supplied by the passengers on the bus.

"We at Greyhound apologize for this inconvenience and have spoken to each passenger with respect to this incident," Tim Stokes, a spokesperson for Greyhound, a unit of Scotland based FirstGroup Plc, said in a statement.

2 inmates escape prison after climbing rope to hovering helicopter

The Saint-Jerome prison
By: Eva Fett

(Scroll down for video) A dramatic movie type prison escape occurred at a prison in Canada, according to prison officials in Canada.

Two inmates in a Quebec prison climbed up a rope to a helicopter to make a daring daylight jailbreak Sunday from a prison northwest of Montreal, authorities said.

Quebec provincial police later said they had arrested three people about 50 kilometers or 30 miles north of Saint-Jerome prison from which the inmates escaped. One of those arrested was 36-year-old inmate Benjamin Hudon-Barbeau.

Authorities on Sunday night located the second inmate after a security perimeter has been set up around the area where 33-year-old Danny Provencal was found.

Quebec provincial police Sergeant Benoit Richard said that officials were in contact with Provencal and have surrounded him in a complex near where the other three were arrested.

"We are still in negotiations and we will see what happens," Richard said. "He is in a compound, we are in contact with him and we are trying to find a peaceful solution," he added.

Earlier on Sunday, police received a call from the jail staff of Saint-Jerome, reporting the break around 2:20 pm, Richard said.
The jail warden told police that Hudon-Barbeau and Provencal had grabbed a rope from the helicopter to their getaway, Richard said.

Quebec provincial police located the helicopter used in the escape on Sunday afternoon at Mont-Tremblant, about 53 miles or 85 kilometers away from prison, but only the helicopter pilot was still at the scene. He was taken to a local hospital and was treated for shock, Richard said. He called the pilot a material witness in the case.

Yves Galarneau, a correctional services manager who oversees the prison of Saint-Jerome, said he had never seen anything like the dramatic escape in more than three decades on the job.

Galarneau said there are no security measures in place to prevent a helicopter descending from above.
"To my knowledge, this is the first time in Quebec," he told reporters at the scene. "It's exceptional," he added.Mobile video not loading? Click here to view

The man, who was identified as 18-years-old, was killed in Brooklyn on Saturday morning after being hit by the compactor of the garbage truck owned by a private company, police said.

A police official said the man, Luis Camarillo of The Bronx, was standing in the back of the truck that had been loaded with recycled paper. A second worker was behind the wheel of the truck, which was parked inside a brick building at 135 Plymouth Street, police said, in the shadow of the Manhattan Bridge and about a block from the East River.

"The compactor came down and crushed him," the official, adding that no criminality was suspected. It was not immediately clear what Camarillo was doing when he was hit by the compactor.

Camarillo was taken to Long Island College Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, according to police. On Saturday afternoon, a single strand of yellow police tape stretched across an entrance to a garage on the ground floor in the building, between Pearl and Adams streets.

A sign on the building was named Chambers Paper Fibres Corporation, a company that operates the paper recycling plants in Brooklyn, the Bronx, Buffalo and Canada.
