(Scroll down for video) The Chinese keep pulling dead pigs out of the Shanghai River, according to press reports in China.

The number of dead pigs recovered in the last two weeks of the river that supplies water to Shanghai has risen to over 16,000.

The government in the financial center of China said Thursday that 10,570 dead pigs have been removed from the Huangpu River. That is in addition to 5,528 pigs recovered from the river upstream in the area of Jiaxing Zhejiang province.

Authorities give daily updates to reassure the public that the evidence shows that the water of the Shanghai River is safe, but no official explanation has been given for the thousands of dead pigs.

Pig farmers have told state media that the dumping of pig carcasses is increasing because the police have started to crack down on the illegal sale of pork products made from dead pigs.

A local newspaper reported that court documents showed that three men were sentenced to life imprisonment in Jiaxing last November after purchasing dead pigs in order to sell the meat.

Chef gets 15 years jail for killing and cooking his wife

David Viens
By: Sarah Weiss

(Scroll down for video) A chef was arrested, charged and convicted of killing and slow cooking his wife, according to court proceedings in Los Angeles, California.

Now, David Viens, the chef who told authorities he accidentally killed his wife and cooked her body in order to get rid of it, was sentenced to 15 years to life in prison, last week.

Viens was convicted last year of second-degree murder for the death of his wife, Dawn.
"I loved my wife. I did not cook my wife," Viens said before sentencing.

In a sentencing memorandum, prosecutors called Viens a liar and a manipulator, and said he had a history of drug-related crimes before the killing of his wife.

In October 2009, 39-year-old Dawn Viens disappeared. Her body was never found. Prosecutors suggested it was because Viens wanted to hide how he killed his wife.

Shortly after his wife disappeared, David Viens began dating a waitress, 23, who worked at local cafe. He told friends and police that his wife had run away. He also sent text fake messages from the phone of his wife, to her friends, prosecutors said, one which said she was in Florida.

After trying to commit suicide, once police began zeroing in on Viens he made a dramatic recorded confession to investigators.
Viens said he duct taped his wife's mouth and tied her hands and feet, as he had done at least twice before. Viens then fell asleep. When he woke up she was dead.

According to his then defense attorney, Fred McCurry, Viens sensed that no one would believe that the death was an accident, so the cook threw his wife's body in a trash bin at the restaurant.

This version matched what Viens told his daughter and his former girlfriend, who testified at the trial. But in a second interview, Viens gave them a much nastier version of what happened to his wife.
"I cooked her for four days," he said. He threw what was left in the trash.Mobile video not loading? Click here to view

High end designer now charging $500 to try on wedding dress

Bridal shop owner Vera Wang
By: Ryan Lee Hall

(Scroll down for video) A bridal boutique for the rich and famous is now charging brides to try on wedding dresses.

Brides-to-be are usually very picky with their wedding dress, and they are willing to pay a nice sum of money so they can look their best on their big day.

Vera Wang’s boutique in Shanghai China, has started a new trend of charging money just to try-on a wedding dress. It reportedly requires customers to put down 3,000 yuan or $482 just to try on a dress.

After a bride has paid Vera Wang’s boutique to try on the dress, the bride is then given only a 90 minutes time slot to be in the dressing room.

The company claims that this 90 minute time slot policy is to deter imitations of their wedding dresses.

If the bride decides to buy the wedding dress she will get the full $482 credit towards the gown. If the bride walks out without buying a dress she loses the money.

A while ago, Dolce & Gabbana brand infamously banned onlookers from taking photos at its Hong Kong store, claiming it was trying to protect intellectual property.

With so many counterfeit product being made, companies are trying to protect themselves from falling victim to imitators.
In the video below, you can see some of the many celebrities who used Vera Wang’s gowns at their wedding.

Twitter slapped with $50 million lawsuit over anti Semitic tweets

Twitter website
By: Shifra Unger

The popular social media website, twitter, was hit with a multi-million dollar lawsuit over anti Semitic tweets appearing on the website, according to court proceedings in France.

The Union of French Jewish Students, may have won their court case involving anti-Semitic tweets in the beginning of the year, but the controversy did not end there.

Twitter however, did not meet the requirements of the court order, so the student union, along with another French Jewish group, decided to take the matter a step further. They sued the company for $50 million for not releasing the data on the perpetrators of anti-Semitic tweets within 15 days, as required by the court.

"Twitter played the card of indifference by failing to respect the decision of the court," UEJF President Jonathan Hayoun told the a French news source.

The lawsuit, which was filed last week by UEJF and "J'accuse" association, is demanding twitter to pay $50 million for the Memorial of the Shoah, a museum commemorating the history of French Jews during WWII.

Last year, widespread anti Semitic tweets were popularized by the French hashtag #UnBonJuif, which translates to "#AGoodJew". Twitter users using the hashtag stated that the comments were considered offensive and derogatory toward Jews.

Indian Muslim doctor in love with Israel and the Jews completes completes long tour

Dr. Navras Jaat Aafreedi
By: Shifra Unger

(Scroll down for video) An Indian Muslim doctor recently completed a long tour in several countries, according to press reports in Israel.

By Aryeh Savir

Tazpit News Agency For

Dr. Aafreedi, a Professor of Jewish studies and a Jewish-Muslim Relations Activist from India, has concluded a speaking tour as a visiting scholar in Australia recently. This follows a month long tour in Israel this past summer, during which he attended conferences and lectured on various Indian-Israeli-Jewish topics, offering a unique perspective.

Dr. Navras Jaat Aafreedi, aged thirty four, is an Assistant Professor in the Department of History & Civilization, School of Humanities & Social Sciences, Gautam Buddha University in Greater NOIDA, a satellite town of Delhi.

He declares himself religiously non-observant. His mother comes from a Hindu-Sikh parentage. His father is a non-conformist Muslim. He thinks that his upbringing in an environment of religious diversity, discussion, understanding and appreciation, buttressed by study and empathy have provides an exceptional background for his academic pursuits.

While studying the history of medieval and modern India, he was increasingly attracted towards the history of Jews; the vicissitudes of their struggle for survival; and their singular achievements despite seemingly insuperable difficulties.

He realized that the history of Jews in India needed to be researched. His PhD thesis is entitled "The Indian Jewry and the Self-Professed ‘Lost Tribes of Israel’ in India".

He is the first person to make any contributions to Jewish Studies in the Urdu language, which is the lingua franca of almost all South Asian Muslims, who represent the largest Muslim population in the world.

He spent a year studying at Tel Aviv University for post-doctoral research on the “Traditions of Israelite Descent among Certain Muslim Groups in South Asia”.

He did a socio-historical study of the three Jewish communities, the two Judaizing movements, the two Muslims groups that have traditions of having descended from the lost tribes of Israel, and the two non-Jewish groups with traditions of Jewish origin in India.

The intention was not to establish the historicity of the claims of Israelite origins that those groups make, but rather to explore why they claim what they do and what is it that makes some of the religious Jews take them seriously.

"I have continued with my research in India, and during this period have interviewed a number of Muslim clerics, journalists, academics, litterateurs and students to ascertain their attitudes towards Jews, Israel and Zionism and to understand what shapes their perceptions and how a positive change can be brought about in their attitudes."

He grew up in Lucknow, a center of Islamic scholarship and one of the major Shia cultural centers of the world, right in the center of the Muslim heartland of South Asia.

Here he worked to bring about a positive change in the Muslim attitudes towards Jews, Israel and Zionism through various means, as a Fellow of the Center for Communication & Development Studies, Pune, under its youth outreach program called "Open Space" which aims to engage the youth with society in a meaningful manner.

"I was struck by the fact that in spite of the absence of Jews in Lucknow, they find frequent mention in the Muslim discourse there, which is invariably always negative in nature.

Global Jewish conspiracy theories were common, despite their small numbers. This triggered my interest in them. The more I read about them the more my interest grew. I came to admire Jews for their scholarship, resilience and tenacity and was inspired to try to bring a positive change in the attitudes of Muslims towards them" Aaafreedi said.

In this climate of anti-Jewish bias and fundamentalism, he still believes that a change in attitude towards Israel, Zionism and the Jews is still possible. "As the great Muslim scholar Prof. Akbar S. Ahmed says, “Hatred thrives on falsehood”, I believe that if awareness is created through the spread of information, it can help in eliminating many misconceptions that people have.

For instance, a number of Muslims in India are under the impression that the two mosques at the temple mount in Jerusalem are not accessible to Muslims because of the Israeli control.

They are certainly unaware of the high standard of living enjoyed by the Arab citizens of Israel and the fact that they enjoy equal rights and have full freedom to follow their religion.

While the issue of Palestinian refugees is all over in the Indian media, the fact that Jews were driven out of Arab countries in large numbers after the creation of the modern state of Israel is never even mentioned.

In spite of the fact that South Asia has had resident Jewish communities for more than two millennia, most of the South Asians, including Muslims, have never had any interaction with Jews, because of their small numbers.

Hence, Jews are often known to South Asians via a secondary source such as the Bible, European fiction, and in the case of Muslims, the Qur'an, and not as a result of direct contact.

The South Asian Muslim perception of Jews is formed by the Muslim press. Hence, a majority of South Asian Muslims, who have never had any interaction with Jews, harbor feelings of hostility and antagonism towards them.

The Indian Muslim antagonism towards Israel kept India from formally establishing diplomatic relations with the State of Israel for four decades, as, to put it plainly, the Indian politicians feared losing the Muslim vote bank if the Indian state established diplomatic ties with Israel."

He believes the change in perception will come by education and information. "The more resources I have the wider outreach I would have.

I tried to make the most of the limited resources that I had and organized a number of events to bring Lucknow’s Muslims into direct contact with Jews, by organizing cross-cultural and international student dialogues at the University of Lucknow and by inviting Jewish filmmakers to screen their films and to speak about their films, by inviting Jewish writers to read out excerpts from their books.

I also tried to introduce the Muslim students in particular and Indian students in general to introduce them to Jewish cinema and literature. I also got a number of Muslim intellectuals to speak against anti-Semitism. I made an effort to eliminate misconceptions and to bring into sharp focus the Jewish contributions to the world, and also to make the youth aware of the many vicissitudes that the Jews have had to go through in their history, and continue to do so through various means.

Since I started working as an Assistant Professor, I have designed a number of courses with Jewish themes embedded in them in a camouflaged manner, as I failed to get approval for my proposed courses focused on Jewish themes and on the Holocaust.

It is hard to get approval for such courses in Indian academia, as the administration fears that it might lose the goodwill of its political masters if any action of theirs has a detrimental effect on their political masters’ Muslim votes. I developed strategies to make the students aware of the Holocaust.

For instance, when I was assigned the task to teach History of Science & Technology to engineering students I made them all write an article on the Misuse of Science & Technology during the Holocaust with reference to the use of gas chambers and human experimentation. This was the only way I could make them aware of it.

After joining the Gautam Buddha University, it did not take me long to realize that it would not be possible to get permission to organize the Holocaust films retrospective at the university, hence I introduced a series of weekly film screenings, as part of which I screen films on the Holocaust or on other Jewish themes."

During his tour in Israel, Dr. Aafreedi lectured at Yad Vashem’s International School for Holocaust, during which he conducted a workshop on ‘Educating India’s Population on Hitler and the Final Solution’.

He came away with unique perceptions on Israel and the Israelis. "I would like to draw their attention to a few important things: They must never lose hope for peace. Most of the acts of Muslim aggression have been perpetrated by just one Muslim sect, the Wahabis or Salafis, which proves that it is certainly possible to have cordial relations with the rest of the Muslims.

Jewish contributions to the world at large and to the Muslim world in particular should be highlighted. Availability of Holocaust literature and cinema should be ensured in all languages of the world. While Hitler’s Mien Kamf is readily available in almost all Indian languages, the only book on the Shoah in India’s national language Hindi is a thin publication from Yad Vashem with Frequently Asked Questions about the Holocaust."

As for Israel, Aafreedi says that he has always been fascinated by the country that produced two of the world’s greatest religions which in turn led to Islam. "I fell in love with Israel during the one year that I spent there in 2006-2007 for my post-doctorate. What impresses me in particular is the indomitable spirit of the Israelis, their amazing achievements in the face of adversities and obstacles combined with their zest for life."Mobile video not loading? Look down, look down, you’ll always be a slave
Look down, look down, you’re standing in your grave
Look down, look down, don’t look em in the eye
Look down, look down, you’re here until you die
At the end of the day you’re another day colder
And the shirt on your back doesn't keep out the chill
And the righteous hurry past
They don’t hear the little ones crying
And the guards coming on fast, ready to kill
One day nearer to dying!
At the end of the day there’s another day dawning
And the sun in the morning is waiting to rise
Like the waves crash on the sand
Like a storm that’ll break any second
There’s a hunger in the land
There’s a reckoning still to be reckoned and
We’re gonna be free someday!
At the end of the day.
I dreamed a dream in times gone by
When hope was high
And life worth living
I dreamed that hope would never die
I dreamed that God would be forgiving
Then I was young and unafraid
And dreams were made and used and wasted
There was no ransom to be paid
No song unsung
No wine untasted
Who am I?
Can I condemn these men to slavery
Pretend I do not feel their agony
These innocent who bear my face
Who go to judgement in my place
Who am I?
Can I conceal myself for evermore?
Pretend I’m not the man I was before?
And must my name until I die
Be no more than an alibi?
Must I lie?
How can I ever face my fellow men?
How can I ever face myself again?
My soul belongs to God, I know
I made that bargain long ago
He gave me hope when hope was gone
He gave me strength to journey on
Watch em run amuck, catch em as they fall
Never know your luck till there’s a free for all
Here’s a little nip, there’s a little touch
Most of them are goners so they won’t miss much
One day to a new beginning
[Raise the flag of freedom high!]
Every man will be a king
[Every man will be a king]
There’s a new world for the winning
[There's a new world to be won]
Do you hear the people sing
Tomorrow we’ll be far away,
Tomorrow is the judgement day
Tomorrow we’ll discover what our God in Heaven has in store!
One more dawn
One more day
One day more!
Do you hear the people sing?
Singing the song of angry men
It is the music of a people who will not be slaves again
For the wretched of the earth there is a flame that never dies.
Even the darkest night will end and the sun will rise.
They will live again in freedom in the garden of the Lord.
They will walk behind the ploughshed, the will put away the sword.
The chain will be broken and all men will have their reward!
Will you join in our crusade? Who will be strong and stand with me?
Somewhere beyond the barricade is there a world you long to see?
Do you hear the people sing? Say do you hear the distant drums
It is the future that they bring when tomorrow comes.
Will you join in our crusade? Who will be strong and stand with me?
Somewhere beyond the barricade is there a world you long to see?
Do you hear the people sing? Say do you hear the distant drums?
It is the future that they bring when tomorrow comes!

Israeli and Syrian troops exchange fire at border, several injured

The Israeli Syrian border
By: David Ross

The civil war in Syria has again spilled over into Israel as an exchange of fire between Syrian and Israeli troops caused several injuries, according to military officials in Israel.

The Israeli army said its troops were attacked on Sunday in the Golan Heights from the Syrian side and that those soldiers returned fire.
Israeli Defense Minister Moshe Yaalon blamed the Syrian army for the incident.

"We believe very strongly that the fire opened last night and this morning came from the direction of Syria which hit the Israel Defense Forces force in Israeli territory," Yaalon said. "We will not allow the Syrian army or any other faction to violate Israeli sovereignty in our territory," Yaalon added.

The Syrian opposition network, the Local Coordination Committees in Syria, said that the rebels were facing off with the Syrian army near the border with the Golan Heights at the time.

Fighting in the area has intensified in recent days as rebels backed by Nusra Front fighters gain territory.
The radical Islamist al-Nusra has become one of the most effective groups of Syrian resistance, on the basis of foreign fighters with combat experience in Iraq and elsewhere.

In December, the U.S. State Department moved to blacklist of the rebel group as a foreign terrorist organization linked to Al Qaeda in Iraq.

Woman left horrified after one breast implant pops out of her body

Lauren Yardley
By: John Roberts

(Scroll down for video) A woman was shocked when her breast implant pushed itself out of her body.

All she wanted is to have a bigger cup size so she does not look like a child and improve her self-image. Instead, she suffered, when her body rejected the breast implant right out of her body.

Lauren Yardley,25, paid over $5,000 for breast augmentation surgery to change her cup size from an A to a DD. However, two months after the procedure was done she noticed that her right breast was larger than the left one and it felt hard and uncomfortable.

The tissue around the implant was tight. Suddenly, she realized that the breast implant pushed itself out of her body through the stitches below her chest.

Her doctor found that she suffered from capsular contracture where her body had rejected the implant and the procedure had to be redone.

However, the doctor was not able to fix the implant right away because her body needed time to heal, leaving Yardley in a very embarrassing situation where one breast was small and one was big for six months until doctors felt it was safe to do the procedure again.

Pepsi rolls out weird new bottles

New Pepsi soda bottles
By: Debbie Gross

(Scroll down for video) When you think about buying a bottle of small soda you used to pretty much know what type of bottle to expect. Not anymore.

Pepsi is rolling out a new design for its 20-ounce bottle for the first time in about 17 years.

The new bottle appears easier to grip and the surrounding label is smaller so that more of the beverage is exposed to the eye. The change follows a series of bold moves in the last year by PepsiCo to improve the sales of their soda, including a multi-year agreement to sponsor the halftime show of the Super Bowl, and a wide-ranging agreement with the pop star, Beyonce.

PepsiCo Inc., based in Purchase, New York, has been working to revitalize the brand after losing market share to Coca-Cola Co. in recent years.

Andrea Foote, a PepsiCo spokesperson, said the new 20-ounce bottle is part of the updating of the company's marketing materials and packaging. The single serve bottles which are widely sold in refrigerators at pharmacies and other retailers, will begin rolling out next month. The new form will also be used for the 16-ounce bottles, which are not as common, Diet Pepsi, Pepsi Max and Pepsi Next.

Foote said it would take a year or two before the new bottles completely replace the current bottles, which were introduced in 1996.
The new bottles will appear first in the New York area, then roll out to Chicago, parts of California and Florida.Mobile video not loading? Click here to view

Boy, 11, arrested after raping his 6-year-old sister

Maria Marquez
By: Ryan Lee Hall

A little boy was arrested and charged with rape related charges after raping his 6-year-old sister, according to police reports in Oklahoma.

The Oklahoma boy was identified as an 11-year-old.
The boy, who was not identified, allegedly assaulted his sister while she was trying to do homework in her room on Wednesday.
The children's mother, Maria Marquez, has also been arrested for not reporting the incident to police.

A local Oklahoma newspaper reported that a cousin, seven-years-old, was also present at the time of the alleged attack, with the two boys saying that they had asked the girl to pull her pants down.

Both boys have accused the other of carrying out the alleged violation.
However, the little girl told a worker of the Oklahoma Department of Social Services, which was alerted to the case, that both "put their stuff in her and it hurt."

She also claimed that her mother refused to take her to the hospital and had ordered her not to tell anyone what had happened.
The mother has admitted the entire incident to the social worker.

Police officers arriving at the girl's house on Friday arrested her brother, accused of first-degree rape.
The legal status of the cousin is currently unclear.
The same girl was taken to a hospital and has been placed in protective custody.

The woman, 32, had been out cold after taking medication for sleep during the long flight.

However, about 40 minutes before the arrival at John F. Kennedy International Airport, she woke up to Zorse massaging her thigh beneath her skirt, the affidavit said.

Zorse defended his actions, as soon as he realized that the woman was conscious again.
"It's not like it bothered you. I did not stick my finger up your ***** or grabbed your breasts," he said, according to the statement, which was docketed in the U.S. District Court in Brooklyn, New York.

"I do not mind a massage," Zorse reportedly said.
The woman, who said the words were not only repulsive The woman told investigators that at the beginning of the flight, Zorse repeatedly made verbal sexual advances on her, and that he acted "touchy feely."

At another point during the flight, Zorse said: "I really like climbing on you", after the woman had offered him to access the overhead luggage compartment to save him the trouble of climbing over her to get to the aisle.
According to the affidavit, Zorse told investigators that he thought the woman was flirting with him and said that she told him he was attractive and a good father.

He admitted putting his hand on the leg of the woman for just 30 seconds, and said he probably said something offensive to her, but openly denied the accusation that he was massaging her under her skirt.
The alleged pervert has been charged with misdemeanor simple assault and faces up to six months in jail if convicted.

(Scroll down for video) A new video was released this week that shows how a New York police officer intentionally rammed his vehicle into a speeding biker that killed one of the riders and injured another, according to video uploaded to the internet.

A recently released video shows the moment the police patrol car crashed into the motorcycle during a chase in Hunts Point, killing the motorcycle driver and injuring his passenger.
Eddie Fernandez, 28, died last summer. His passenger, Adalberto Gonzalez, 27, was wounded and arrested.

Gonzalez's attorney, has now filed a lawsuit against New York City for damages in the suspected intentional assault, which is against police protocol.

"Psychologically, he is ruined. Watching his best friend die was not easy," lawyer Peter Ronai told a local television news station.

He said the video serves as proof that the police intended to hit the two, despite an New York Police Department policy not to hit dirt bikers.

"The police officer barrels on them like a scud missile," Ronai said. "They were dead ducks. They had no chance. Their only crime was biking. They paid for that with their lives," the lawyer added.

Gonzalez is scheduled to appear in court on Monday on charges of reckless endangerment, resisting arrest and reckless driving.
After the accident, Hamilton Nunez, of the 41st Precinct, told a New York based newspaper that NYPD policy was not to chase cyclists aground because it was too dangerous.

"We do not want to pursue them," Nunez said. "Every time they stop we arrest them," Nunez added.
The New York Police Department Patrol Guide prohibits ramming in an attempt to stop a vehicle.Mobile video not loading? Click here to view
