A Palestinian man received a long jail sentence for clicking a facebook like button on a post that allegedly ridiculed the Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, according to court proceedings in Palestine.
The Palestinian man who clicked like on a facebook status criticizing the Palestinian National Authority has been sentenced to six months in prison.
Anas Ismail, 29, of Salfit near Nablus, was found guilty of "defamation and slander".
Ismail is the second Palestinian to be imprisoned for facebook activities in recent days.
He was sentenced to prison on the same day that a Bethlehem court sentenced a Palestinian journalist to one year in prison for sharing a photo on facebook comparing the Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas to a villain and a spy for the French colonial authorities in a Syrian drama.
“The people of Palestine live in fear from this regime who watch every move we make even on facebook and twitter. If we click on like or share on something they do not like they throw us in jail,” an angry palestinian resident in Bethlehem told YourJewishNews.com.
