Man caught steals $10,000 worth of chicken wings

Boris Delisser
By: Ryan Lee Hall

A man thought he had enough chicken wings for the rest of his life before the police swooped in to destroy his plan.

A worker at a Connecticut poultry company was arrested and charged with theft related charges after stealing $10,000 in chicken wings along with some other meats.

Police said that recently reviewed surveillance video recordings from County Distributors in South Windsor, showed how Boris Delisser, 43, of Bloomfield, took chicken wings from a storage facility and loaded the loot into a vehicle without a sales transaction.

The detectives investigating the case said that they found Delisser had taken chicken wings and other meat products from the company on several occasions. Police said he stole a total of $10,000 worth of products.

“This guy is silly if he thought that he will be able to get away with stealing a large amount of chicken wings. If he stole a small amount, it might have went unnoticed. Unfortunately, pigs get slaughtered,” Alexis Boles, 48, of New Haven, Connecticut told after learning about the theft.

Delisser was arrested Tuesday on charges of first degree robbery. He was released on $10,000 bail and is due to appear in court next month.

(Scroll down for video) Dozens of mentally disabled patients were burned to death at a Moscow, Russia hospital, after a fire broke out at the facility today, fire officials said in a statement.

The fire spread quickly through the psychiatric hospital outside Moscow early Friday, killing 38 people, most of them sedated and in their beds, officials said.

The one level brick and wood hospital building housed patients with severe mental disorders, Health Ministry officials said. An Emergencies Ministry official said the fire started in a wooden annex and then spread to the main brick building which had wooden beams.

The patients who were sedated did not wake up, Yuri Deshevykh of the Emergencies Ministry said during a press conference.
At least 29 people were burned alive, Irina Gumennaya, a spokesperson for the Federal Research Commission said.

Investigators said the 38 dead included 36 patients and two doctors. They said that a nurse managed to escape and save one patient, while another patient left on their own. The Emergencies Ministry also published a list of the patients which indicated that they were between the ages of 20 and 76-years-old.

“It is extremely sad when people die such a gruesome death especially when these people are helpless mentally disabled patients. If there was negligence on part of the hospital they should be held accountable,” Cliff Kitchen, 36, of Moscow, Russia told after learning about the hospital fire.

Investigators said they are looking into violations of fire regulations and a short circuit as possible causes of the fire which affected the Ramensky Hospital.

Vadim Belovoshin of the Emergencies Ministry said firefighters took an hour to get to the hospital because of bad road conditions.Mobile video not loading? Click here to view

Florida man arrested after masturbating on public beach

Elijah Slocumb
By: Ryan Lee Hall

A woman called police on a Florida beach goer after she spotted him masturbating next to her.

The 35-year-old woman who is a regular visitor to the Smathers Beach, told police that the man was sitting next to her on the beach, had exposed himself and masturbated, according to an arrest affidavit by the West Key Police Department.

When the first police officer arrived, he saw the man, who was identified as Elijah Slocumb, of Key West, but the officer could not clearly see what the man was doing. “I saw the man moving his arms but I could not determine the motion,” the officer wrote in his report.

As soon as the 42-year-old man saw the officer he "immediately grabbed a blue towel" and seemed to wipe his hands with it, the affidavit said.

“At the beach there are certainly a lot of hot women, but masturbating in public is just wrong and disgusting. The least he could have done is cover himself with his towel so women don’t see and freak out by what he was doing near them,” Robert Taylor, 55, of South beach, Florida told after learing about the disturbing incident at the beach.

The woman told officers that Slocumb, initially sat several feet away from where she was reading a book. However, when she looked up to watch a few kite surfers, she realized that the man was masturbating. In the report, the officer noted that Slocumb was sober. Police arrested and charged him with intentionally masturbating and exposing his genitals in a "lewd and lascivious exhibition."

Police officers get citizens drunk for training purposes

(Scroll down for video) Police officers handed out alcohol to some New York residence in an effort to combat drunk driving.

Officers in Long Island distributed free drinks to four volunteers and urged them to get wasted without legal consequences.

Recently, the Suffolk County Police Department had four volunteers drink alcohol until their alcohol level was over the legal limit. This was done in order to train the officers. The purpose was to show officers, the signs to look for in order to know if the person is drunk, giving them probable cause to arrest drunk drivers before they hurt innocent people.

"We really need the intoxicated people so we can do the field sobriety tests in a real life atmosphere," Officer Charles Boyle said. Now, with boating season approaching, officers are training to keep the waters safe from drunk boat drivers.

“This is very interesting indeed, because under normal circumstances, officers keep people as far away from booze as possible. Now, they gave people booze so they can get intoxicated for the greater good, very weird,” James Davis, 19, of Nassau County, Long Island told when asked what he thought about police officers giving booze to citizens for training purposes.

The police in Long Island will be more vigilant this upcoming boating season as a result of several boat accidents, last year.

Last summer, Christopher Mannino, 39, of Dix Hills, New York died on his way to the Mako Shark fishing tournament after a drunken boat operator, Brian Andreski, 27, struck the fishing boat. Mannino’s body was found nine hours later by the Suffolk County police divers.

In another incident in Long Island, three young children drowned when a power boat capsized near Oyster Bay, which led to the Suffolk County legislators to pass a law mandating boat operators to complete a safety course starting in 2014.

Athlete gives up his career to donate bone marrow to save stranger’s life

Cameron Lyle
By: David Ross

(Scroll down for video) A 21-year-old man has made a decision to give up his career in order to save the life of a cancer patient.

The University of New Hampshire student has been called a hero after he decided to end his track and field career early so he can donate bone marrow to a man with leukemia who has never seen before.

Cameron Lyle, of Plaistow, New Hampshire registered as a bone marrow donor, along with the rest of his teammates, two years ago, when he was a sophomore. At that point, the group was told that the odds to be a match to someone who is not a family member is “one in five million," Lyle said.

Lyle, who is now a senior, did not think much of it until a few weeks ago, when he received a phone call informing him that was a perfect match for a 28-year-old man who suffers with acute lymphoblastic leukemia. The patient was given six months to live, if he does not find a donor.

Lyle faced a tough decision, because if he decided to donate his bone marrow then he would not be able to continue playing. After the surgery, he will not be able to lift anything more than 20 pounds. On the other hand he could save a man’s life, but their is no time to wait.

For Lyle, the decision was a no-brainer. "He has six months to live and I have the possibility of giving him a couple of years to live,” Lyle said. "I was very scared at first, but it is starting to settle in," he added.

“I was pleasantly surprised that a young man with a good career ahead of him gave it all up in order to save the life of a man he never met. By law, the recipient must remain anonymous until one year after the donation, we all wish the 28-year-old man a speedy recovery and we hope he gets well very soon. We are looking forward to the happy reunion ceremony of the donor and recipient when they meet in the future. Hopefully both will be in perfect health by then,” Maria Griffin, 46, of Manchester, New Hampshire told after learing about Lyle’s heroic actions.

Christine Sciacca, Lyle's mother, is very proud of her son's decision, “He is my hero. I was brought to tears when he told me of his plans to give up his career in order to donate bone marrow,” she said.

Female police officer jailed after road rage leads her to fatally shooting 15-year-old

People protesting against child abuse
By: Ryan Lee Hall

(Scroll down for video) A police officer was jailed after she shot and killed a 15-year-old during a road rage incident.

A female police officer who is a mother of two, was convicted of killing the teenager and attempted murder of four others in an incident of road rage.

Officer Hlengiwe Mkhize, who is 31-years-old, was sentenced to 15 years in prison. Mkhize was an officer at the KwaZulu-Natal police department before she was jailed by the Pietermaritzburg High Court on Thursday for murder and attempted murder.

According to court proceedings, 15-year-old Ngobo Mkhize, was driving a car with four of his friends when he accidentally rear ended officer Mkhize's car. The two came out of their cars, and agreed to report the accident to the police. When they got back into their cars, Mkhize claimed, that she heard what sounded like a gunshot. In response, Mkhize fired twice at Ngcobo's car and struck him in the head.

The 15-year-old was rushed to the hospital, but sadly, he could not be saved. He later died in the hospital from a gunshot wound. When police arrived, Mkhize attempted to open a case of attempted kidnapping against the boys, claiming the boys wanted to kidnap her therefore she shot at them in self-defense. At sentencing, Judge Thembisa Maphumulo, rejected her version of the events. The judge found that something made her angry, which caused her to shoot at the teenagers.

“Road rage has caused many unpleasant incidents between total strangers. People need to realize that they do not own the road, things happen and they have to act civilly. Unfortunately, in this incident, one moment of the officer’s road rage left a young boy dead and her kids were left to grow up without their mother around. Just heartbreaking,” Nicole Botha, 41, of Cape Town, South Africa told after learning about Mkhize’s jail sentence.

“Mkhize had been well trained in the justice system and she tried to manipulate the system by opening a case of attempted kidnapping against the victims instead of handing herself over for murder,” social worker Philiswa Zungu said.

Mkhize has two children, aged 14 and 11 months, with two different men. Both fathers reportedly told the social worker that they were prepared to take care of their child if Mkhize went to jail, according to court documents. Mkhize was sentenced to 15 years for murder, of which five years were suspended. She was also sentenced to 5-years in prison for four attempted murders of the other people who were in the car. The sentences will run concurrently.

“The Independent Police Investigative Directorate is pleased with the sentence, as it sends a message to police officers that they will be held accountable if they misuse their firearms and their authority,” IPID spokesperson Moses Dlamini said.

Man arrested after raping 2-year-old daughter to cure his HIV

A man was arrested and charged with child rape related charges after he raped his daughter in an effort to cure his HIV.

The Johannesburg, South Africa father allegedly raped his two-year-old daughter, believing that it would cure his HIV.

This chilling motive emerged during a police investigation into the rape of the girl. The girl’s mother was horrified when she discovered that her daughter had been raped. The mother reported the incident to police after her daughter would not stop crying and she discovered wounds in the toddler’s private area.

"My daughter was crying, especially when urinating, pointing to her private area, and saying that her father had hurt her. When I examined her I saw she had cuts around her private area," the girl’s mother said.

At about 3:00 pm, the day of the alleged attack, the girl’s father asked to take the baby out to buy food and diapers at a nearby supermarket. The father brought her back at night, according to a statement by South African police. After making a statement, police accompanied the mother and daughter to the Nthabiseng Thuthuzela Care Center at the Chris Hani-Baragwanath Academic Hospital, where the rape was confirmed, and the father was arrested.

A police spokesperson, Captain Mpande Khoza said the man is due back in court next week. The clinical director of the Teddy Bear Clinic, Dr. Shaheda Omar, said more education is needed to dispel the myth that child rape or having sex with a virgin was a cure for HIV.

"It's ridiculous to think that when you rape a virgin while suffering from the HIV virus it will remove the infection, it's nothing more than a crime," Omar said.

“A father is supposed to protect his daughter. It is very sad that a father can be so evil and harm his daughter like this. Why would the father want to infect his baby with HIV?” Clara Grobler, 23, of Port Elizabeth, South Africa told when hearing about the father raping his daughter in order to cure his HIV.

Lynne Cawood, Director of Childline Gauteng in South Africa who specializes in advocacy and lobbying to raise awareness on issues of violence against women and children, agreed with Dr. Omar: "It is ridiculous to think that raping a child or a virgin can cure HIV."

According to statistics, a woman is raped every 17 seconds in South Africa. It is estimated that only one in nine women report being raped, and that only 14 percent of the perpetrators are convicted.

A man miraculously survived despite jumping from the Empire State Building, police said in a statement.

The tourist tried to jump from the Empire State Building yesterday, but he only managed to fall down one floor, surviving his intended death jump.

Nathaniel Simone, 33, climbed over a security fence on the observation deck which is located on the 86th floor around 11:30 pm and jumped, but only fell to the 85th floor.
"He climbed over the fence and fell," a police officer who was at the scene said.

He suffered a broken ankle and was taken to Bellevue Hospital for treatment. The man was also detained by the police.

“Security officials at the Empire State Building need to install a taller fence in order to prevent suicide attempts at the site. With a simple taller fence this problem can be solved, at least as far as the Empire State Building is concerned,” Vince Hawly, 49, of New York City told after learning about the suicide attempt.

Police arrested and charged the man with reckless endangerment, trespassing and disorderly conduct.

100 year old nickel sells for $3.1 million at auction

Rare 1913 nickel
By: Debbie Gross

A century old nickel sold for an enormous price at auction this week.

A 1913 Liberty Head nickel sold for $3.17 million at an auction in Illinois Thursday. The buyer called it, "one of the greatest coins ever sold in that price range."

The coin, one of only five known to exist, had been kept off the market for 41 years because its owner had been told that it was not authentic.

Melva Givens, of Salem, Virginia, inherited the nickel from George O. Walton, who died in a car accident in 1962. Walton, a collector of North Carolina, had acquired the nickel in the 1940s for $3,750.

An expert revealed that the coin was located after a nationwide search and was authenticated by experts at a secret midnight meeting in Baltimore, Maryland, several years ago.

Melva Givens had kept the nickel in a box along with other family items in a closet, and it remained there for four decades, a nephew, Ryan Givens, who consigned the coin with his two sisters and brother said.

Ryan Givens and his siblings brought the coin to the American Numismatic Association World's Fair of Money after they offered $1 million for the coin.

“After seeing rare coins selling for enormous prices recently, I might begin collecting coins myself,” Loyd Russ, 39, of Rochester, Minnesota told after learning about the $3.1 million nickel.

"This is one of the greatest coins in that price range," Jeff Garrett of Lexington, Kentucky who bought the coin together with Larry Lee of Panama City, Florida said.

Nearly 50 percent of young U.S. Christians favor legalization of marijuana

The solid conservative values of the United States Christian community seems to be fading away.

A recent survey shows that a slight majority of Americans support the legalization of marijuana. Now, the marijuana movement seems to have taken another step forward, with a survey showing that nearly half of all young Christians in the U.S. also favor the legalization of illegal drugs.

In the survey, 45 percent of young people, who self-identified as Christians, support marijuana legalization. Forty-nine percent of respondents say they are opposed to legalization. Only 22 percent of elderly Christians who participated in the survey said they favor legalization.

Interestingly, a high percentage of young Christians said that smoking marijuana is morally acceptable compared with the general population. Fifty-two percent said they are OK with marijuana, compared with 49 percent of all Americans.

Fifty-two percent of Christians who belong to an ethnic minority, said they smoked marijuana, compared with 44 percent of white Protestants and 40 percent of evangelical Protestants. These figures are in line with, or even greater than the average for all Americans, 42 percent of whom said they have tried marijuana.

Those who have smoked marijuana seem to have enjoyed the experience, with 65 percent of them in favor of legalization. Similarly, 65 percent of those who have never tried marijuana oppose decriminalization.

However, even among those who oppose the legalization of marijuana, more than 60 percent are in favor of allowing it to be used for medical purposes when prescribed by a physician.

“Even though I do not support smoking of marijuana for many reasons, I support the legalization of marijuana, since I believe that the government has no business telling adults what is moral and what is not morally acceptable, just like I wouldn't want the government telling people that alcohol or cigarettes are not morally acceptable,” Buffy Tinsley, 36, of Minneapolis, Minnesota told after learning about the recent survey.

Army of 72,000 ladybugs arrive at Mall of America

Ladybugs released at the Mall of America

(Scroll down for video) If you are not the type to like ladybugs we suggest you stay away from the Mall of America in Minnesota.

An army of 72,000 ladybugs have found their new home in the Mall of America, where commercial and entertainment center managers have released the insects inside the fully enclosed center.

The Bloomington, Minnesota mall, which is so large it could hold seven Yankee stadiums, also has more than 30,000 living plants, including about 400 trees, which act as natural air purifiers for the indoor mall.

Aphids, which are pesky insects that feed on plants, thrive within the commercial center as well as many gardens in the United States.

Aphids, however, have a natural enemy, ladybugs, family members of ladybird beetles, which are valued by gardeners for their habit of eating pests like aphids.

"Ladybugs are what I like to call, a kind of biological defense system,” Lydell Newby, the top executive of the United States environmental services, said.

The mall has released ladybugs in the past as an alternative to commercial pesticides.
Although some buyers have complained that ladybugs might fly into their food, the mall spokesperson said that the insects tend to spend their lives on plants, and not on human food.

“I like the idea of using a natural remedy to fight off pests rather than chemical pesticide. I am sure it is more healthy for everyone shopping at the mall,” Lavinia Kum, 30, of Saint Paul, Minnesota told after learning about the ladybugs.

However, not everyone agreed with Kum.

“I will not go shopping at the Mall of America anytime soon because I hate those creepy little bugs and I do not wish to see them all around me,” Joana Hay, 41, of Saint Paul, Minnesota told video not loading? Click here to view

Army of snakes invade Mississippi courthouse

Snake that was found in the Mississippi courthouse
By: Eva Fett

(Scroll down for video) They are equipped to deal with the worst criminal offenders, but what they are not prepared for is to deal with an army of snakes.

An army of snakes was caught sliding inside a Mississippi courthouse recently, which give workers the creeps.

Five brown snakes, also known as earth snakes, have been found in the basement of the office of the Hinds County circuit clerk.
A deputy clerk, Kelly Phillips, said Thursday that the largest was a few inches long, while the smallest was the size of an overgrown warm.

Former zookeeper Percy King, who makes reptiles shows in local schools, went to the courthouse to identify the snakes. He said that earth snakes eat lizards, worms, crickets and other small insects, and have soft teeth that probably could not even break the skin of a human.

It is not uncommon for earth snakes to be sneaking into buildings during the spring as they wake up from hibernation. King said: "A snake that size could go through any small hole."

“The experience had to be real scary for all those court employees. I know that if I would encounter a snake at the office I would never want to return to work. I would probably quit my job,” Kasandra Malloy, 46, of Jackson, Mississippi told after learning about the snakes.

The courthouse in downtown Jackson was built in 1930 and is crowned by a statue of Moses with the Ten Commandments. The basement windows are said to be sealed well.

Phillips said the first time she saw a snake in the office, her brain did not register immediately what it was.
One of the snakes was killed accidentally by a cabinet that rolls on tracks. Another was caught in a sticky trap left by maintenance workers.Mobile video not loading? Click here to view

Mother dresses in burka to save her kidnapped son

Khalil Mohamed Atteya
By: Moses Gold

(Scroll down for video) A woman, whose son was kidnapped came up with a clever idea how to save her son from captivity.

Through the crack of the burka she is wearing to mingle in the streets of Alexandria, Egypt, Kalli Atteya waited and watched until her boy got off the bus. When she saw him, she moved quickly, grabbing his arm and toward the waiting car.

"Come," she told her 12-year-old, who admitted that the piercing blue eyes of his mother made him obey the order without a word.
Soon, they were speeding toward a safe house where they waited for three weeks before returning to the U.S., and ending a 20-month nightmare that began with the kidnapping of Khalil Mohamed Atteya.

His father, Mohamed Atteya, who is wanted by the U.S.
authorities, is accused of luring the mother and the child to his homeland, then grabbing the boy, and letting Kalli Atteya and her sister on the side of a desolate road between Cairo and Port Said.

"My dad forced me to be a Muslim, a thing I did not want to be," Khalil, who has been back in Pennsylvania for more than a month, said.

His mother was determined to spare no expense and even risked her own safety to save her son. After a tortuous struggle that included red herrings, false hopes and spending more than $100,000, Kalli Atteya finally showed what love and determination of a mother can do.

“Fortunately for this woman, her story has a happy ending, but unlike her story there are thousands of other children who are whisked away to Muslim countries in order to force them to be a Muslim. Women need to be very careful with who they have children,” Ayesha Ruff, 22, from Harrisburg, Pennsylvania told after learning about the Atteyas.

"I was very nervous, but I was bound and determined to get back my son," Kalli Atteya said from her home in Chambersburg, Pennsylvania.

New York college students find massive floating head in Hudson River

Giant head floating in the river
By: Moses Gold

(Scroll down for video) Several college students were horrified after noticing a giant floating head in the river.

Unreal? That is exactly what college officials in New York are asking after a crew of students found the strange object floating in the Hudson River.

Officials at Marist College in Poughkeepsie said that their team was practicing earlier this week when the coach saw a large object floating near the west side of the river. He hooked a rope to it and pulled it to the east side of the river.

The object turned out to be a 7 foot replica of a male head made of Styrofoam and fiberglass. The head has the appearance of a Greek or Roman statue.

University officials believe that the head was probably used as a prop in a movie, but so far no one has come forward to claim the giant head.

“It is good that I wasn’t there when the head was noticed. I would have freaked out and I would never go near water in my entire life. It was probably done by someone who wanted to scare the students off,” Olivia Loyd, 22, of Poughkipsee, New York told after learning about the giant floating head.

It wasn’t the first time that people were fooled by a fake looking human. As we reported earlier, police in Shandong Province, China, received calls about a woman's body floating in the nearby river.

A team of 18 police officers, medical workers and firefighters rushed to the scene as the drama unfolded.
They worked frantically for almost an hour to rescue what they thought was a woman drowning.

Hundreds of people had gathered to watch the heroic rescue.
Police stopped traffic so that the ambulance can rush the woman to the hospital as soon as she is rescued.

But when officers finally managed to bring the drowning woman to shore, they were shocked and disappointed to discover it was an inflatable sex doll.

Mothers reportedly quickly covered their children's faces and hurried them away from the scene, before their kids could ask awkward questions.
Shandong Province is major manufacturing center in China for sex toys.

A while ago, a Chinese TV reporter was left mortified after she mistakenly reported the find of a rare mushroom that was discovered by villagers from Liucunbu, a rural community outside the western Chinese city of Xi’an, while drilling a new well shaft, only to find out later that it was a rubber sex toy.Mobile video not loading?
