(Scroll down for video) A popular Hollywood actor blamed his cancer on his engagement in oral sex.
Michael Douglas revealed he believes that his throat cancer was apparently caused by oral sex.
In an interview, he explained the background of his disease he thought was fatal when he was diagnosed almost three years ago.
When asked if he now regretted his years of smoking and drinking, which is believed to be the cause of the disease, Douglas replied: "No, because without wanting to be too specific, this particular type of cancer is caused by HPV or human papillomavirus virus, which is actually caused by cunnilingus.”
Douglas, the husband of Catherine Zeta Jones, continued: "I was concerned if the stress caused by the imprisonment of my son help trigger it, but yes, it is a sexually transmitted disease that causes cancer.”
The actor, 68, was diagnosed with cancer in August 2010, after many months of oral discomfort. A number of experts missed the tumor and prescribed him antibiotics instead. Douglas went to see a doctor recommended by a friend in Montreal who looked into his mouth with a tongue depressor.
"I will always remember the look on his face," Douglas said. "He said: 'We need to do a biopsy.’ There was a walnut-sized tumor at the base of the tongue that no other doctor had ever seen," Douglas also said.
Shortly after he was diagnosed with stage four cancer he embarked on an intensive eight weeks of chemotherapy and radiation. He refused to use a feeding tube despite his burned tongue because of the treatment, so he lost 20 kilos or 45 pounds after living on a liquid diet.
The treatment worked and Douglas remained cancer free for 2 years now. Douglas undergoes checkups every six months. “With this type of cancer, 95 percent of the time it does not come back," he said.Mobile video not loading? Click here to view
