Police immediately suspected her former boyfriend in the murder, but when authorities closed in on him, he fled.
Now, the search for the former boyfriend of the East Orange, New Jersey prom queen found shot to death in her bedroom came to an end when a federal task force captured an 18-year-old man in his Newark apartment, authorities said.

Al-Muqqadin Means faces murder charges in the death of 17-year-old Aquila Flood, a college bound student, who has graduated from school on Saturday.

Flood was recently voted prom queen at Campus High School in East Orange, and was supposed to receive her crown on Thursday night. Now, she will be buried Wednesday morning.

Prosecutors have not offered a motive for the murder, but the victim's mother, Nicole Flood, said that Means was a jilted lover, who began to threaten her daughter after she refused his invitation to the prom.

Means surrendered without incident when members of the FBI cornered him inside a multifamily apartment building on Third Street at 12:30 pm, Anthony Ambrose said.

Nicole Flood found her daughter dead from a gunshot wound to the head. The girl had died hours before the grim discovery. There were no signs of forced entry into the apartment.

Criminal records show that Means was arrested twice this year for theft, burglary and conspiracy. The charges have not been resolved.

By: Moses Gold

A teen girl died after a religious ritual circumcision procedure was performed on her.

The 13-year-old Egyptian girl has died while undergoing the circumcision in a village near Cairo, despite being officially outlawed under the Mubarak regime.

"We left our daughter with the doctor and nurse. Fifteen minutes later, the nurse took my daughter out of the operating room to a nearby room, along with three other girls that the doctor has circumcised," Mohammed Ibrahim, a farmer, said.

"I waited half an hour, hoping that my daughter would wake up, but unfortunately, unlike the other girls, she did not," he said.
Police ordered an autopsy on the girl, named Suhair al-Bata'a, and called the doctor to determine the cause of death of the teen.
A health inspector's report said the cause of death was due to "a sharp drop in blood pressure as a result of trauma shock," the family's lawyer, Abdel Salam said.

Female genital mutilation or FGM, is an ancient custom in Egypt, and its history dates back to before Islam and Christianity. The practice is still widespread, and Egyptian activists say it affects the lives of up to 90 percent of the female population.
Egypt criminalized all forms of FGM in 2008 and human rights monitors say the number of girls subjected to the operation has been reduced by about one third.

National Council of Women of Egypt condemned the recent death as a criminal act that reflects "extreme savagery", asking the government to investigate the matter and punish the guilty.
UNICEF Egypt has also condemned the incident, saying that female circumcision has no medical or religious justification.

A new mobile synagogue was set up on Israel’s main north-south roadway, toll road Highway 6.

The mobile synagogue was set up to benefit Jewish travelers who use the busy highway. Thousands of U.S. and Israeli Jews use the highway every day.

Religious travelers often had difficulties during longer trips in finding a secure place to pray.

That is why Migdal Ha’emek Rabbi Yitzchak David Grossman decided to help Jewish travelers on the road. Grossman asked Derech Eretz, the operator for the toll highway 6, to install a mobile structure that can function as a synagogue between Baqa and Iron interchanges.

"The synagogue will safeguard and protect the road and its travelers," Grossman said this week after the synagogue began hosting daily prayers.
Derech Eretz CEO Ehud Savion said he was satisfied with his contribution to drivers and passengers from Israel and around the world.

"Rabbi Grossman and I made sure that we would establish the same type of synagogue on the south side of the road, and we will try to do it as soon as possible," he added. Derech Eretz also pledged to put up signs to direct travelers to the synagogue. The synagogue is similar to the highway synagogue set up on Interstate 87 in New York.

A family was stuck in heavy rain in the woods when the woman went into labor.
The couple, who live in the Konni forests in India, started walking to the hospital, but the rain made it hard for the woman to walk.

In an effort to save his pregnant wife and unborn child, the man walked about 25 miles in the woods in heavy rain while carrying the sick woman on his shoulders in order to get her to the hospital, but the baby could not be saved.

The husband, Ayyappan, a tribal man who lives deep in the Konni forests in Pathanamthitta district, married Sudha about eight months ago. They are living with Sudha’s father and two sisters in the woods. Ayyappan makes a living by selling honey and other products, which are made in the forest. When his wife went into labor prematurely, Ayyappan took his seven month pregnant wife, Sudha, to Konni Forest Hospital Tuesday in heavy rain.

On the way, his wife became too sick to walk so he picked her up and held her on his shoulders until he reached the town of Kokkathod, which is about 25 miles from the forest where he was living. From there, he asked someone to rush his wife to the Kottayam Medical College Hospital where doctors treated her for seizures. Sadly, the doctors were unable to save their baby.

"The woman's life had been saved because she was carried all the way. Doctors induced labor to try to save her baby, but the baby could not be saved, " Dr. Kunjamma Roy, director of the Department of Gynecology of Kottayam Medical College Hospital said.

Sudha is said to be in stable condition and is recovering at the hospital.

Woman drastically shrinks her waist by wearing corset everyday for three years

Michele Koebke
By: Sarah Weiss

(Scroll down for video) Many women struggle to have the perfect body.

Some women go to extremes such as surgery or starving themselves in order to acquire the body they desire.

One woman, 24-year-old Michele Koebke, has taken her goal to a whole new extreme. She started wearing a corset 24 hours a day. When her waist shrinks, she gets a smaller size corset and squeezes herself into it until that too becomes big.

The Berlin, Germany native is currently preparing to beat the record for the world’s smallest waist. She plans to accomplish her goal by wearing a corset everyday for the next three years. She started out with a 25 inch waist and her current waist measures a surprisingly small 16 inches.

With one inch to go before she ties for the world record for “World’s Smallest Waist,” Koebke said she is determined to continue the shrinking to 15 inches, a goal that doctors said could be very harmful to her health.

Koebke’s health is already suffering, her corset use has resulted in shortness of breath, and her digestive system does not work properly, forcing her to eat 10 tiny meals a day rather than 3 regular meals. “In time she won’t be possible to move without the corset, or in the worst case she possibly won’t be able to move at all,” Dr. Rudiger Langer, a specialist in internal medicine, who is treating Koebke, said.

While Koebke admits her corset use has severely stunted her ability to move naturally, she said she is pleased with her unusual waist size. Koebke, who has been posting updates of her changing body for the past nine months on her YouTube channel, said that she received mostly positive comments from viewers.

The current record holder for the world’s smallest waist is 76-year-old Cathie Jung, of Manteo, California, her waist measuring at 15 inches. Jung is 5 feet and 6 inches tall, weighs 135 pounds, and has a 39 – 15 – 39 figure. She refers to her waist as the same as a “jar of mayonnaise.” She was awarded the record-breaking title in 2011.

New York restaurant prohibits customers from tipping waitresses

Sushi Yasuda restaurant
By: Shifra Unger

(Scroll down for video) Feeling like giving a tip for your waitress after receiving great service? In one New York restaurant you are now prohibited from tipping your waiter or waitress.

“Sushi Yasuda” in New York has maintained an excellent reputation for more than a decade, and now the restaurant is in the headlines after prohibiting tips.

All restaurant servers are now being paid full wages, paid vacation and sick leave.
The high-end restaurant seats only 45 guests and the chef's menu can cost over $100, so the owners do not care about raising prices to compensate for the lack of tips.

Customers have been confused since the policy went into effect earlier this year. Managers put a note in both the menu and the reception explaining the no-tipping policy, but some diners continued to write a tip on their bill even though there was section where to specify the amount of the tip.

The restaurant finally began circling the explanation on the receipt in red to attract customer's attention.
Daisy Chung, CEO of Restaurant Opportunities Center of New York, which supports restaurant workers, said she thought the practice to ban tips in order to provide a salary with benefits was a "good idea," noting that bad weather can cut tip income no matter how good the service.

"Certainly, we feel that there should be a system where workers do not have to rely on tip income in order to receive their wages," Chung said. "Workers should be fully compensated," she added.Mobile video not loading? Click here to view

British police said that what looked like a severed hand found outside the residence was just a joke that had not been cleaned up properly.

Nottinghamshire Police said a forensic team was sent to the Nottingham, England, neighborhood Thursday after a report came in of a severed hand with a severed finger on a sidewalk.

New York man jailed after pleading guilty to slashing taxi driver in anti-Muslim attack

Michael Enright
By: Debbie Gross

(Scroll down for video) A man, who was arrested and charged with hate crime related charges, was jailed after pleading guilty to the attacks, according to court proceedings in New York.

The college student will serve 9 and one half years in prison after pleading guilty Tuesday to the charges that he attacked a taxi driver in New York, who immigrated to the United States from Bangladesh, during a diatribe against Muslims inside his taxi.

"I used a knife. I cut his throat," Michael Enright, 24, said when a Manhattan judge asked him to describe his crime.
Prosecutors claimed that Enright deserved a prison sentence of 18 years for his cold-blooded brutal attack.

"After insulting Islamic principles and mocking Ramadan restrictions, the defendant, unprovoked, reached through the partition of the taxi and slashed the victim’s neck," a prosecutor told the court.

Judge Richard Carruthers agreed that the charges, attempted murder and assault as hate crime, were serious. He said he was imposing a lesser sentence because Enright had no criminal record and because the victim was not seriously injured.
"This sentence is fair and appropriate," the judge said.

Authorities alleged that Enright asked driver Ahmed Sharif if he was Muslim, issued an Arabic greeting, and told him to consider this a checkpoint before slashing him.

Enright initially told police that Sharif tried to rob him and he defended himself, prosecutors said. The movie recording student later told police that he was a patriot, according to prosecutors.
A lawyer for Enright said he was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the attack.

"This was a heinous crime against an innocent New Yorker," District Attorney Cyrus Vance Jr. said in a statement. "The victim, a native of Bangladesh, and father of four children, has been working and living in our diverse city for nearly three decades. There is no place for intolerance in the city of New York," he added.Mobile video not loading? Click here to view
