A woman called police to reports that her taxi driver “looks very Muslim”, and that she was afraid, according to police reports in Virginia.
A Muslim civil rights group is now seeking criminal charges on behalf of a taxi driver who was subjected to an anti-Islamic diatribe, which was caught on video.
The woman of Ashburn, Virginia, launched a series of expletives and called police to report that she feared for her life because she said her driver, Abdikar Aden of Alexandria, was "very Muslim."
Aden reported that the woman also hit him several times on his back.
The Council on American-Islamic Relations, which represents Aden, asked the Fairfax County Commonwealth Attorney on Tuesday to treat the case as a hate crime.
The woman was identified in a police report as Jennifer Crabbe.
In a police report, Crabbe and her partner, denied hitting Aden. The police report said that Aden was paid the $50 fee after he stopped, and another taxi was called to take Crabbe and his partner the rest of the way.
During the journey, Aden said, she assumed he was a Muslim and said that all Muslims come to the U.S. to work as taxi drivers for a year to save money so they can blow themselves up.
Last month, CAIR intervened on behalf of another Muslim taxi driver who also recorded an obscenity-laced rant motivated by suspicion of a passenger about Islam. In that case, the passenger allegedly broke the jaw of the driver and has been charged with assault.
