Those suffering from alcohol addiction may soon be able to get relief after Israeli and U.S. scientist found a so-called brain switch, which can be shut off to alcohol, according to the latest results of a research study.

Scientists were able to shut off the switch in the brain of mice with an alcohol problem and prevent them from falling off the wagon, according to researchers from the United States and Israel.

The new study, published in Nature Neuroscience, identified a key brain molecule involved in reconsolidation of alcohol-related memories caused by the presence of alcohol. This discovery could lead to treatment for people with alcohol abuse disorders and other addictions.

Professor Dorit Ron of the University of California, San Francisco, and colleagues were interested in the study of the brain mechanisms that underlie "cue-induced cravings" in people with alcoholism.

"The majority of alcohol-addicted patients will relapse in the first year of abstinence," they wrote. "A major cause of relapse is the cue-induced cravings, a process in which a signal that was previously associated with the reinforcing effects of alcohol causing alcohol cravings in itself," the researchers wrote.

If there was a way of erasing the memory of cue-induced cravings, researchers thought, then it might be possible to reduce or prevent relapse due to cue-induced cravings.
The scientists were able to successfully shut of the molecule responsible for cue-induced cravings in mice.

Karl Crompton
By: Sarah Weiss

(Scroll down for video) An innocent man was facing jail after a traffic cop lied, and claimed the he was hit by the man.

A traffic cop has been jailed for perverting the course of justice, when a surveillance camera video proved that he lied.

Karl Crompton, 43, lied to police about being hit by a motorist, who he had given a parking ticket. He fabricated an accusation that he was hit by an angry driver. Crompton told police officers that Edward Phipps, 63, plowed into him after an angry confrontation outside a pub in Bridgnorth, Shropshire, England. He was given a ticket for parking in a disabled space.

Crompton accused Phipps of deliberately driving into his knees, which made him roll onto the hood of the car. The traffic cop failed to realize that there was a surveillance camera in the area, which confirmed the man’s version that there had been no such incident.

After a four-day trial at Shrewsbury Crown Court, Crompton was convicted of attempting to pervert the course of justice and jailed for four months. Paul McGreary, the group manager of public protection and enforcement in the Shropshire Council, said after the event: "It is clear that the sentence reflects the seriousness of this case.

"We expect our civil servants to act with the highest integrity and honesty. As unfortunate as this case was, it highlights the pressures that civil enforcement officers may be under while performing their duties. We are saying that this was a very unusual situation and we are sure it was an isolated case," he added.

Woman sleeps with dog-sized pet rodent

Melanie Typaldos with her pet rodent
By: David Ross

(Scroll down for video) While most women would squirm at the sight of a rodent in their house, one woman paid to have a rodent live with her.

Some people adopt dogs as pets, while others choose cats, but Melanie Typaldos, 57, chose a capybara rodent as her pet.

A capybara is the largest species of rodents in the world. They are the size of a dog. Melanie and her husband Richard Loveman, 54, share a home in Buda, Texas, with the rodent they named Gary, who weighs 112 pounds. "Although some people might find it strange, it is not really different from having a dog or cat.

Gary is actually very intelligent and very affectionate," Typaldos said. "I love when the rodent sleeps with me in my bed. It learns tricks very fast, faster than your typical dog,” she added. Typaldos and Loveman, fell in love with the huge rodent on a trip to Venezuela, and they later found a capybara breeder in Arkansas.

Since capybaras spend most of their time in the water, the couple added an above-ground pool to their home. They also introduced Gary to their other pets. The two own a horse, a dog, a cat, rabbits and turtles. "He gets along well with other animals. It likes to chase the rabbits for fun," Typaldos said.

Typaldos is not content with the fact that she and her husband like the rodent, she takes Gary to local schools to educate children about capybaras. While she is happy with the pet and sings its praises, Typaldos explains that the species are not the perfect pet for everyone. "Capybaras can be very aggressive at times and its teeth are very sharp. Gary is not at all aggressive, but a bite from a capybara can be very serious," she said.

A bride was left devastated after picking up her wedding gown from the store, only to realize that it is torn, dirty, and used, despite paying for a brand new one.

Now, the angry woman has decided to sue the store, according to a lawsuit filed in federal court.
The Washington state woman said that when she went to the bridal boutique to get her wedding dress she received a torn, stained and used gown after she paid more than $2,000 for a new one, according to court documents.

Nicole Trombley of Snohomish County said that Amanda’s Bridal Boutique in Redmond, Washington, tried to pass the used, ill-fitting dress as new.

The bride-to-be opened the dress bag a week before her wedding to find the dress had "stains, rips, wears and missing pieces,” according to the lawsuit.

The dress designers confirmed that they had not sold any dresses in the past year to this particular boutique.

Psychic wins $190,000 lawsuit against newspaper it claimed she was a fraud

Psychic Sally Morgan
By: Ryan Lee Hall

A psychic sued a newspaper and won after they claimed she was a fraud.

British psychic Sally Morgan, who claims that she talks to the dead, won a substantial legal settlement with a British newspaper that claimed that she "deliberately and dishonestly" deceived an Irish audience.

The popular British newspaper Daily Mail has agreed to pay psychic Morgan $193,000 in damages for an article which stated that she used a hidden earpiece during a performance in order to appear as if he was receiving messages from the spirit world.

The article written by Paul Zenon, made the allegations after two women of Dublin, who attended the performance, called a radio station and said that they heard two crew members saying things, which Morgan then repeated on stage.

The crew members, who were accused by the Daily Mail as being part of the scam, were actually subcontracted by the theater and were not members of Morgan’s team. Morgan sued the Daily Mail, and they agreed to settle. As part of the settlement, representatives of Associated Newspapers Limited, Daily Mail’s publisher, apologized to Morgan and agreed to pay her legal costs.

Morgan believes the settlement will go a long way to show that she is legit. On her website she wrote: "There will always be skeptics, who attack my work. I understand and accept that. However, to slander me and falsely accuse me of being a con-artist does not constitute rational commentary or debate. I hope this settlement and apology will repair the damage that has been done.”

However, an editorial writer for the Telegraph, Tom Chivers, explains that the lawsuit was about whether or not Morgan used an earpiece during the show, not whether she really talks to the dead.

Man undergoes 13-hour surgery to remove 140 pound testicle, still unhappy

Wesley Warren Jr. with his doctor after surgery
By: Debbie Gross

(Scroll down for video) A man, who had a 140 pound testicle removed is still complaining despite the relief, according to hospital officials in California.

The man is unhappy because the operation left him with a small private part.

Wesley Warren Jr. had a 13-hour procedure to remove his swollen sac after it became so large that he had to wear a shirt with a hood and pants to support the load.

The 49-year-old could not have sex and suffered crippling pain of carrying around the testicles, which weighed more than a baby hippo.

Now, the U.S. man fears he will never be able to have a relationship with a woman after the surgery revealed that he was left with a one inch manhood.

Wesley said: "I know most people probably expected me to express extreme happiness and joy that my life has been transformed since the sac has been removed, but it's not as simple as that. I feel a great sense of comfort that the weight is no longer between my legs. It reached a point where it was a danger to my health, but when I look down at what's there now, it is not the same as it was. It's totally different. My natural appearance before the growth was much better. What came out after the surgery is just an inch long. I am grateful to have been removed from the fire, I was burned, and now I'm dealing with first-degree burns. I'm still disfigured.”

A doctor performed the complex surgery for free on humanitarian grounds.Mobile video not loading? Click here to view
