Israeli forces shoot dead terrorist who planned Tel Aviv bus bombing

The bombed bus in Tel Aviv
By: David Ross

A Palestinian terrorist, who planned a bus bombing in the Israeli city of Tel Aviv, was shot and killed by Israeli soldiers, according to a report in the IDF Blog.

Mohammad Asi opened fire on IDF forces during an attempt to arrest him for his involvement in a 2012 terror attack. The soldiers returned fire, and the terrorist was killed. He was responsible for the attack on a bus in Tel Aviv in November 2012, which injured 29 Israeli civilians.

Earlier today, October 22, Israeli forces killed suspected terrorist Mohammad Asi during a joint operation involving the IDF, the ISA (Israel Security Agency or Shin Bet Security Service) and the Israeli Police. Asi was among the planners of the attack on a Tel Aviv bus during Operation Pillar of Defense in November 2012.

Asi, born in 1985 and from Beit Laki, has been incarcerated several times for military activity with the Islamic Jihad terrorist group. He was one of the planners of a bomb attack on November 21, 2012. The attack took place in Tel Aviv near the offices of the Ministry of Defense and injured 29 civilians.

Since the attack, security services have pursued Asi as a suspect. After many efforts, the ISA managed to locate his hideout. When IDF forces approached the hideout to arrest Asi, he attempted to escape and opened fire on the forces using a weapon that was already in his possession. The forces returned fire, killing the terrorist.

During the joint operation, accomplices of Asi were also arrested: Muhammad Ibrahim Sais, from Benjamin, who was jailed in the past for his terrorist activities with Islamic Jihad; and Abdullah Suleiman Abu Asi, from the village of Naama, who was jailed in the past for similar terror activities. The ISA interrogated both accomplices.

Stuffed animal on vacation
By: John Roberts

(Scroll down for video) A company has come up with a clever idea to make money on people’s obsession with their stuffed animals.

A travel company has begun offering vacation packages for toys that will cost its owners between $20 and $55.

It may seem ridiculous, but people are willing to pay up to send objects on vacation.

Unagi Travel explained the reason behind the madness.

Some stuffed animals owners said that they live through them, and when they see the plush bear flying to places they feel as if they too are traveling.

"I want to see and walk the places that my stuffed animal went through one day," an unnamed woman said.

The 51-year-old woman had not been out much due to an illness that makes it difficult for her to walk.

The woman eventually sought medical help in order to be able to go on vacation along with her stuffed animal.

If you want to keep up with the adventures of the toys, you can access the travel agency’s Facebook page.

The tours are operated by 38-year-old Sonoe Azuma, who previously had a blog that recounted the life of her stuffed animals.

The mother has been sentenced to 30 years in prison after burning her 19-year-old son’s penis and nipples with a lighter.

Christine Gelineau, 53, of Massachusetts, pleaded guilty to first-degree assault and witness tampering, after she forced her son to lie about the abuse.

The injuries, which were second and third degree burns, have left the teen with permanent nerve damage.

In the affidavit for the case, Gelineau admitted to burning the tip of her son’s penis, but said that she only did so after her son has threatened to have sex with her.

At a hearing in Merrimack County Superior Court, in New Hampshire, the teen described in detail how his mother brutally abuse him.

He also had a message prepared for his mother.
"Dear ex-mother. What you did to me is unforgivable.” he said.

"You beat me, you starved me, and you almost chopped my penis off. You threw my clothes away, and wouldn't let me bathe. You almost killed me by having me take three antidepressants and two muscle-relaxers. Now, I know you're a complete criminal and only wanted me dead so you could go back to your old life. You won't be able to attend my graduation or see me go on to college, so I wish you goodbye. I hope you realize you have lost everything you had,” he continued.

(Scroll down for video) A man was arrested after he was seen driving at extreme speeds with a young girl on his bike.

Authorities in Pekin, Illinois, said that the man, who was clocked driving his motorcycle at 140 miles per hour had an excuse. He told officers that he needed to pee.

Adam Lester, 26, was spotted doing about 140 mph on the McNaughton Bridge on Tuesday night, and was arrested. The speed limit on the bridge is 55 mph.

When the arresting officer told Lester to put his hands behind his back so he could be handcuffed, he told the officer he “had to pee.” Unfortunately for Lester, he had to wait until he was taken to the police precinct.

It all began at 7:30 p.m. Lester drove past the officer, and was clocked doing 85 mph over the posted speed limit.
Lester not only put his life in danger he also had a 16-year-old girl riding with him.

“The officer said he checked twice to verify its 140-mph reading,” a department spokesman said. The officer quickly began to pursue the biker and watched as the biker began to slow down. However, the man passed a red light after he crossed the bridge.

The officer then lost sight of him. Shortly thereafter, the officer spotted Lester again, this time he was stopped between vehicles that were parked between two buildings. The officer got out of his cruiser and “snuck up” on Lester and the female passenger on the bike.

Lester was arrested and the teen was questioned by police. The teen told police that Lester knew the officer who was pursuing him, which is why he ran through the red light in an attempt to avoid the officer. The teen also said that after they had stopped, Lester told her to switch jackets with him.

Court records show that Lester has been cited three times in the past month for speeding. He has been convicted of speeding in the past. He's also been convicted of other traffic violations.

For Tuesday's joyride, Lester has been charged with a host of different traffic violations. Additionally, he was charged with endangering the welfare of a minor because his female passenger is only 16-years-old. Lester was released after he posted $200 bond.

California man, 72, survives 19 days in the wilderness by eating squirrels

Gene Penaflor
By: Shifra Unger

(Scroll down for video) A man is lucky to be alive after being lost for 19 days. He survived thanks to his courageous decision to eat squirrels, according to emergency workers in California.

The 72-year-old man said he survived 19 days eating lizards, frogs and squirrels.

Gene Penaflor was found on Saturday, after he disappeared in the Mendocino National Forest in northern California. He was on an annual hunting trip.

"He goes hunting every year, and he comes home every year," his daughter-in-law Deborah Penaflor said on Monday, outside her San Francisco home.

"We had gotten a little complacent because he would always return," she said.

He separated from his hunting partner for a couple of hours to hunt deer. During that time, he hit his head and passed out.

He woke up after being unconscious a full day, with his chin and lip badly slashed. He saw the fog and dew associated with mornings and realized that he had been out for a while.

He survived by eating squirrels and other animals that he killed with his rifle, and he drank water from a drain. He huddled under logs to stay out of the snow and rain, and kept warm by making fires with leaves and grass.

The search resumed on Saturday, and a group of hunters found Penaflor when someone in the group heard a voice calling for help from the bottom of a canyon. He was found about 3 miles from where he disappeared.

When his family learned he had been found alive, they went to the mountains to join him.

"There were tears of joy at the top of that mountain," Deborah Penaflor said.

Man, 40, dies after eating too many high energy candy

John Jackson
By: David Ross

A man is dead after he consumed too many caffeinated candy, according to a medical report in the United Kingdom.

John Jackson was found dead at his home in Wednesbury, West Midlands, after eating too many Hero Instant Energy Mints.

The 40-year-old had twice the recommended daily intake of caffeine in his blood.

Coroner Robin Balmain, who ruled the death accidental, said he would contact the Department of Health to see if they could take action.

The daughter of Jackson, Rebecca Court, 23, said her father ate the energy product like any other candy.

"There is a warning on them, but it is small, and in stores, they are sold alongside regular candy," she said.
"It's scary. I think they should be sold behind the counter," she also said.

"I think the public needs to know the truth about these mints. Each of them contains as much caffeine as an energy drink. There are people who constantly chew on the candy. If you eat these mints you could ingest a lot of caffeine without knowing it," Balmain said.

Jackson had a liver disease, which was a contributing factor to his death.
However, the cause of death was given as caffeine poisoning.

The maker of Hero Instant Energy Mints said in a statement that it is investigating the incident.

Police fired rubber bullets and tear gas at protesters outside a hotel after violence broke out because people are angry that the rights of an offshore oil field are being auctioned off.

Meanwhile, warships were seen patrolling the coast of Barra da Tijuca, near Rio de Janeiro.

Anglo-Dutch firm Shell, is making an offer to acquire the rights to work 16,500 feet below the sea.

"This is a terrible decision to sell off the oil rights. They need the money to pay for the World Cup and the Olympics. The short-term gain is a huge loss for the whole country in the long term," protester Joao da Silvam, 23, said.

President Dilma Rousseff ordered tight security after violent demonstrations broke out in Rio last week.

"We need to extract this immense wealth that lies under the sea and on the land. We cannot do it ourselves, and if the oil stays where it is we will gain nothing,” Minister of Mines and Energy, Edison Lobao, said.
