(Scroll down for video) A family in the Borough Park section of Brooklyn, New York, has released surveillance video showing a woman stealing a UPS package.
The surveillance video shows a UPS worker leaving a package on the porch, and rather than knocking on the door to see if someone was home, he left the package behind.
Less than a minute later, a woman jumps out of a white van and steals the package.
Homeowner Nechemia Brodt said he is surprised by the brazen crime, which took place at 5:00 p.m.
Brodt said that inside the box was women's shoes, size 7 1/2, valued at $105.
"My wife wanted to wear the shoes for a wedding party," Brodt said.
He is also upset with the UPS driver because he never rang the doorbell. Brodt said that he was actually home at the time when the package was delivered.
UPS has policies in place, especially during the holiday season, to prevent incidents like this one, but for some reason this particular driver did not follow the UPS rules.
"At this time of year, we are not allowed to leave any package at the door," UPS driver Uri Eshel said.
“Thieves are following UPS and FedEx trucks and scooping up packages left on door steps, usually within seconds of the truck leaving,” police said.
This seems to be happening more often especially before the holidays when people order expensive gifts.
The UPS company has promised to reimburse Brodt for the stolen package.
