Doctor found guilty of raping 21 women during surgery while sedated

George Doodnaught

(Scroll down for video) A doctor is facing a long prison sentence after he was found guilty of sexually assaulting 21 women.

George Doodnaught of Canada, who worked as an anaesthesiologist at the North York General Hospital in Toronto, was found guilty of sexually assaulting the women while they were under anaesthetics.

The victims were aware of what was happening, but were unable to move their limbs, the court heard.

Doctor Doodnaught kissed the patients as they lay on the operating table. He fondled their breasts and made explicit sexual remarks.

In 13 of the cases, he was accused of placing his penis in the mouth or hands of the victim.

Doodnaught’s attorney Brian Greenspan told Ontario Superior Court Judge David McCombs that the height of the operating room table, as well as the presence of various machines and IV lines would have made it difficult if not impossible for Doodnaught to even get close enough to the victims.

Greenspan also said that there are many doctors and nurses going in and out of the operating room. “No one saw or heard anything that would indicate sexual assault,” Greenspan said.

However, it was said that Doodnaught stood near the patient’s head with a sterile sheet over the upper body hiding him from the sight of other staff.

The defense attorney also argued that the victims had vivid sexual dreams caused by sedatives, which is known to play tricks with memory.

Most of the 21 victims took the stand against Doodnaught, and all had similar accounts of being sexually abused while having surgery on the lower part of their bodies.

The Judge said that is not a coincidence that all 21 women reported being sexually abused by the same man.

Judge McCombs noted that the women did not know each other, and all came forward on separate occasions.

Protesters outside courthouse

(Scroll down for video) A man was finally arrested after he raped a number of children over many years.

The rape suspect has angered people in South Africa, many of whom came out to the court in protest.

In court, the 42-year-old suspect told the judge that he does not want bail.

The man was making his second appearance in the Mamelodi Magistrate’s Court in Tshwane, since he was charged with raping a 5-year-old girl.

Mamelodi East residents were angry and protested after the suspect said he did not want bail. They wanted him freed on bail so they could “teach a lesson.”

They shouted that they would pay his bail if he could not pay it.

The case was adjourned, and the suspect was removed from the court.

Residents had already collected money for his bail so they could get their hands on him.

"He's a coward. He must come out and face us. However, he would rather rot in jail,” neighbor Sango Selby said.

Outside the courthouse, residents protested with banners calling the man a monster and a dog who deserved to die.

Residents were up in arms over a series of rapes, which took place over the past 13 years. The community blames the suspect for all of those rapes.

People in the community said that the suspect got away with crimes for many years because he is from a from well-connected family, and because he has worked as a police informant.

A woman was angry at a duck because it rejected her so she killed it.

Karie Lindgren, 36, of Tarpon Springs, Florida, was arrested on Saturday, after she killed a duck with her car because the animal rejected her advances.

According to police, Lindgren became angry when she tried to lure the duck to her with a piece of candy, but the duck refused to get close to the woman.

Officers were called to the scene and found the dead duck laying on the driveway.

After hearing from witnesses, Lindgren was arrested and booked into the Pinellas County Jail. She was charged with animal cruelty.

She was released after posting $5,000 bond.

By: Ryan Lee Hall

(Scroll down for video) An elderly woman is the latest victim to come forward and filing a complaint about the racist “knockout game,” according to police reports in New York.

Brooklyn Police said that they are searching for group of teenagers, who are behind a series of random attacks on strangers throughout Brooklyn. Police believe that the attacks are part of a disturbing trend circulating online.

It's called the “knockout game,” in which innocent people are randomly sucker punched in the head.

The latest attack victim was an elderly woman in Midwood, and it comes after eight similar attacks against Jews in Crown Heights.

The 78-year-old woman is terrified to leave her house, her daughter, Rita, said.

The incident occurred on Saturday, when the woman walked down the street, but was too afraid to report the attack immediately. State Assemblyman Dov Hikind persuaded her to go to the police after authorities released a shocking video that showed an Orthodox Jewish man, 20, randomly being hit by a group of black teens in Crown Heights last week.

"Who would do that? Who would attack a 78-year-old woman?" Hikind fumed.

The Hate Crimes Task Force is now looking for suspects in an eight similar attacks.

A $1,000 reward is being offered for information leading to any arrests in connection with these incidents.

V'ondra Olivaria, 16, of Clayton County, Georgia, invited 17-year-old Brandon Williams into her house.

The teen’s mother was home when her daughter invited the man, who was unknown to her, into her room.

Williams was polite as it was the first time he met the girl and her family.

"He shook my hand and not even five minutes later I heard a gun go off. My baby was gone," the girl’s mother, Yolanda Rincon, said.

Williams admitted that he accidentally shot the 16-year-old in her bedroom just 5 minutes after the two were introduced to each other by a mutual friend.

Parents in the United Kingdom will be paid to do homework with their kids

By: John Roberts

In today’s busy world it is hard for parents to find the time to do homework with their kids or to attend a parenting workshop.

Now, parents in the United kingdom, will receive money as an incentive to do so.

Parent will get paid over £600 (about $1,000) to learn techniques on how to better help their children with their homework.

Parents will get the money to attend a new "parenting academy" where they will learn how to improve their child's skills in reading, writing, math and science.

The program will cost about £1 million to launch.

The program will start with about 1,500 families of 14 elementary schools focused on Middlesbrough and Camden, in north London.

Parents of children under 11-years-old will attend the academy six times each term. The classes will last about 90 minutes each.

Parents will receive a grant of about £600 for attending, although the amount has not yet been finalized.

The program is being run by Education Endowment Foundation, a fund set up with £125 million government funds in an attempt to raise the standards in poor areas.

"I have doubts about simply paying them, but if the money enables parents to take time off work in order to attend the courses, it could be very helpful," Brian Lightman, general secretary of the Association of School and College Leaders, said.

Mother receives fine for not sending crackers with her kids to school

Kristen Bartkiw
By: Debbie Gross

A woman received a fine after school administrators said that the mother did not prepare a well-balanced lunch for her children, according to school officials in Canada.

However, the Manitoba mother said she does not blame the day care for the fine because she approved the new rules.

Kristen Bartkiw of Rossburn, said she received a fine of $10 when it was discovered that the lunch consisting of beef roast, carrots, potatoes and juice that she sent with her young children to The Little Cub’s Den, was unbalanced due to the lack of grains.

The school had to give the kids Ritz crackers.

"I do not blame the day care," Bartkiw, who served on the board of the day care when it adopted the rules to fine parents, said.

Manitoba Early Learning and Child Care requires day cares to provide nutritional elements missing from children’s lunch. The food must include a dairy, a meat, a grain and two servings of fruits or vegetables.

“We implemented a fine after parents were not following the guidelines,” Bartkiw said.
