New hotel to be built under the sea surface for spectacular views

Underwater hotel room
By: David Ross

(Scroll down for video) If you want to experience the beauty of the sea you will soon be able to just look out your hotel room window.

Instead of penthouse suites, the most unique lodging experience will soon be 20 feet or more below the sea surface.

The idea of sleeping with the fish at some distance below the waves may seem dangerous, but the necessary technology to build an underground hotel is well established and proven.

Robert Bursiewicz, a project manager at Deep Ocean Technology, a Polish company that is planning an underwater hotel called Water Discus, said that the hotel can be towed to a suitable location and placed on the seabed.

The hotel consists of an underwater disk containing 22 rooms overlooking the sea, connected by elevators and stairs to a similar disk above the surface containing other hotel facilities.

"Today, it is possible to build submarines that go beyond 1,640 feet below the sea surface, so building an underwater hotel is not a problem," Bursiewicz said.

In fact, it should be much less of a technical challenge to build a hotel underwater than a submarine, because hotels are unlikely to be placed more than 50 feet below the sea surface.

That's because the water acts as a filter for sunlight, and below 50 feet most of the colors except blue are washed out. That means the rooms have to be in relatively shallow waters in order to achieve the most spectacular views and colorful marine life.

Man sues country because it rained during his vacation

A man filed a lawsuit against a country because it rained while he was on vacation, according to court proceedings in Canada.

Now, the man who sued the Dominican Republic because it rained during his vacation, has been labeled a "quarrelsome litigant" by a Quebec judge.

Being labeled as such means that Bruno Leduc cannot file another lawsuit unless he receives prior approval of the court.

Labeling a citizen of a "quarrelsome litigant in Quebec, is extremely rare. A judge has to believe that someone "often demonstrates stubbornness and narcissism" and his allegations are "on the edge of being irrational."

Court documents show that Leduc filed 70 small claims against individuals or companies in recent years. Within the first three months of 2012, Leduc submitted 19 claims.

Judge Diane Quenneville ruled last month that "the court has no doubt that Leduc is abusing the justice system."

Leduc sued the consulate of the Dominican Republic and Transat airline, for damages because it rained when he spent time in that country, and because his leg was injured when the plane landed.

Leduc sued Costco Wholesale Canada, for $500 because the staff took too long to put a lawnmower he wanted to buy in his carriage.

Leduc sued Air Canada after being kicked off a plane when he would not move to an economy class seat that he had paid for, from the business class seat he was sitting in. He responded by suing the airline for more than $4,000.

(Scroll down for video) A man was left traumatized after waking up inside an empty and dark commercial jet.

Tom Wagoner woke up on Friday night, only to see that he was completely alone.

He looked around from his window seat in the back of the plane and wondered: "What's going on?"

He tried to open the jet door, but it was locked.

He called his girlfriend, and she thought he was joking or that he went crazy. He called United Airlines, and about 30 minutes later, the door opened.

"I came from Louisiana to see my sister in California. We had a stopover in Texas," Wagoner said. "I just decided to take a short nap," he added.

Well, he must have been very, very tired, because as the other three dozen passengers went off the plane after a one-hour flight, he remained fast asleep.

For some reason the flight crew did not realize that a man was sleeping in the back of the plane.

"What if I had a medical problem or something? What if I had a heart attack and was dead? You shut the plane and let someone there?" Wagoner said.

Wagoner stayed in a hotel room before flying to California the next day. He was given a United voucher for $250.
