(Scroll down for video) Several people were left injured and 21 cars were damaged after black ice piled up on a busy highway in Brooklyn, New York, according to rescue workers.
Rescue workers said that black ice caused a huge pile up after Tuesday's blast of snow left behind slush on the roads, which quickly froze with the night dip in the temperature.
The accident in Brooklyn on Tuesday night involved at least 21 vehicles on the Gowanus Expressway near Sixth Avenue in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn Police said. Several people suffered injuries.
Part of the highway was closed for hours on Tuesday night, when police responded to a large amount of backed up traffic. Tow trucks were on the scene to remove the vehicles overnight and to clear the way for morning commuters.
The snow that fell on Tuesday, was the fourth measurable snowfall in the last nine days, and winter has not officially started.
