A man was left with serious injuries after a tombstone toppled over on top of him, trapping his leg, according to rescue workers in New York.
Brooklyn rescue workers said that a man, who was paying his respects at a grave in a Flatbush cemetery, was injured, when the tombstone suddenly turned over on top of him.
The man was with several other family members at Holy Cross Cemetery about 2:00 p.m., when he apparently leaned too hard on the big red color slab, causing it to fall on his leg, trapping him.
"He did not realize how hard he was leaning against the stone as it came down and knocked him over," Syed Ali, 83, a security guard at the cemetery who witnessed the incident, said.
Ali said that he and other workers called police after relatives of the man were not able to lift the stone, which weighs several hundred pounds.
An ambulance and emergency workers arrived, and freed the man. He was placed him on a stretcher and was taken to a local hospital. He was conscious and talking, Ali said.
"I really do not know how badly he was injured, but if something so big falls on you, it will do some damage," Ali said.
