(Scroll down for video) A 3-year-old girl is dead after having a root canal at a local dentist, according to lawsuit filed in Hawaii.
Ashley Boyle took her daughter Finley, to Island Dentistry in Kailua, to undergo four root canals by Dr. Lilly Geyer.
Before the procedure was carried out, Finley was given a powerful mixture of sedatives, including Demerol. Twenty minutes later, she suffered a cardiac arrest.
Finley’s parents said that their daughter did not receive immediate CPR.
The lawsuit filed against Dr. Geyer, claimed that staff at Island Dentistry were ill prepared for this type of emergency, and during the incident, the staff had to run down the hall to ask for help from a neighbor.
Attorney Rick Fried said that all of this could have been avoided if staff had properly administered sedatives and monitored the girl’s vital signs. Fried said that most of the dental work was not necessary to begin with, and the staff did not take the necessary precautions.
