(Scroll down for video) A black man is heartbroken after a judge sentenced him to jail for no reason, according to court proceedings in Texas.
Clifford Hall of Houston, said he is more than willing to pay child support for his 11-year-old son.
“I am his father, and it is my responsibility to care for him,” Hall said.
Hall’s required child support payments were recently modified, but nobody bothered to notify him.
“Lately, my boss was withholding a lot more money some weeks and a lot less on others,” Hall said.
“I did not want to go to jail so I paid the missing amounts from my own pocket,” Hall added.
Hall quickly paid almost $3,000 in additional child support.
When Hall and his former partner were in the courtroom of Judge Lisa Millard last November, he owed nothing.
“The opposing counsel twice stated that everything is paid,” Hall’s attorney said.
“The judge ended up sentencing him to six months in jail,” the attorney added.
“When she sentenced me to Harris County Jail for 180 days, my mouth just dropped,” Hall complained.
Judge Millard said that she found Hall in contempt because he left the courtroom.
