A banker was arrested and charged with murder after he allegedly strangled his wife in a fit of rage, according to court proceedings in the United Kingdom.

Prosecutors said that a Morgan Stanley banker, who is addicted to gambling, strangled his wife in a fit of rage on the day he was to attend a disciplinary meeting after losing millions of dollars.

Manas Kapoor, 35, who worked as a product controller, feared being fired after an accounting error cost the bank millions of dollars, so he asked his wife, Shivani, to accompany him to the meeting for moral support.

However, he attacked his 35-year-old wife at his home in Northwood, northwest London. Initially, he told police that she fell off a stool. She died in a hospital a few two days later.

In the moments before her death, the wife found out that her husband was spending thousands of pounds on gambling websites. They couple had one daughter, who is a year old.
