A teen was arrested and charged with theft after his mother dragged him into the police station, according to police reports in California.

Santa Cruz Police said that a local 17-year-old man, who was accused of stealing a woman’s purse in the parking lot of a supermarket, was handed over to the authorities by his mother after she saw surveillance footage of him on Facebook.

The teenager, whose name has not been released because he is a minor, was arrested on suspicion of robbery.

About 2:10 p.m. on Saturday, the teenager assaulted a 68-year-old woman in the parking lot located at 117 Morrissey Boulevard, and took her purse. He ran to a small car, which looked like a red Honda Civic or Accord. The other two were in the car, and they all fled.

After the incident police published video of the incident on Facebook.

The boy’s mother saw the pictures and recognized her son.

The teenager lives in San Jose, and was staying with his father. On Wednesday, the mother went over to the house, grabbed her son and delivered him to the Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Office.

Police received a full confession.

“He stole the purse with the intention of using the money to buy marijuana,” the police said.

The teenager did not identify his two accomplices in the car.

Both suspects were Latino and in their late teens or early 20s, police said.
