A woman was arrested, charged and convicted of malicious damage after damaging a cellphone, according to court proceedings in Nigeria.
The Ikeja Magistrate’s Court in Lagos, sentenced businesswoman Philomina Eregbulem, 28, to two months imprisonment with hard labor for damaging her housekeeper’s cellphone.
“You are hereby sentenced to two months imprisonment with hard labor for maliciously damaging a cellphone,” Judge Abimbola Oshodi-Makanju said.
The judge also ruled that the defendant must also pay N110,000 ($690), which is the value of the phone.
“This will serve as a deterrent to others,” the judge said.
Eregbulem was charged with one count of malicious damage.
Prosecutors said that Eregbulem maliciously damaged a Samsung Galaxy cellphone belonging to Abdulazeez Huseni.
