It was a full-fledged “bank run” at one ATM in the United Kingdom, after word got around that it was dispensing free cash.
The Lloyds Bank ATM in Mansfield Woodhouse, Notts, did not work and started spitting cash as customers withdrew cash on Tuesday morning.
Hundreds of people were seen waiting in line at the ATM for their chance to get free cash as word of the broken ATM spread like fire.
The flaw was discovered by the managers at the cash machine service station at 3:00 p.m.
A spokesperson for Lloyds Bank said that an investigation had begun into how the error occurred and the bank would not be able to give details on the amount of money that was taken from the ATM.
So far, the bank does not intend to pursue charges against those who took the free cash.
“We are aware that there was an error with the Lloyds Bank ATM in Mansfield Woodhouse, which resulted in incorrect amounts being distributed. The ATM is out of service and we are investigating the error,” a spokesperson for the bank said.
