(Scroll down for video) Three hundred couples got married in a mass wedding ceremony in the West Bank and the Gaza Strip, after the Palestinian prime minister paid all their expenses, the office of Mahmoud Abbas said.
The mass wedding ceremony took place on Tuesday.
Participating in the ceremony were 218 couples from the West Bank, who were married in the historic town of Jericho, and 80 couples got married in a parallel ceremony in the Gaza Strip.
Prime Minister Mahmoud Abbas, who attended the ceremony in Jericho, said that the ceremony cost $1.5 million.
The brides wore traditional Palestinian embroidered dresses, while the grooms were dressed in Western style suits.
“The mass wedding was to help young couples get married in the current difficult economic environment,” a spokesperson for the Palestinian Authority said.
Abbas paid for all the wedding expenses, including clothes and transportation for thousands of people. Each couple also received $4,000 in cash.
