(Scroll down for video) A 12-year-old girl was sentenced to 12 years in jail after she killed her baby sister while babysitting four of her younger siblings.
Ty’asia Jackson of Georgia, was arrested for the stabbing of her 2-year-old sister Sasha to death before hiding her body in the woods behind the family’s home.
Prosecutors in DeKalb County, were looking for 20 years behind bars.
However, Jackson agreed to a plea deal and pleaded guilty to a lesser charge of voluntary manslaughter.
Judge Gregory A. Adams of the DeKalb Superior Court, sentenced her to 12 years in prison. She will be out of prison in eight years, and the rest of her sentence she will serve through probation.
After the sentencing, Sasha’s father, who is Ty’asia stepfather,
said that he was satisfied with the ruling.
He also said that the teen’s mother Haneefa Ray, and the family still love Ty’asia. He encouraged the girl to keep her head high.
The stepfather Shelton Ray is asking other parents to learn for their mistake and not put too much pressure on their children.
At the time of the murder, Ty’asia was babysitting Sasha who was 2, and three other sisters, Sanai, 5, Shanell, 4, and Sade, 3.
Jackson will begin her sentence in a juvenile facility. When she turns 17, she will be transferred to an adult correctional facility.
