(Scroll down for video) A woman is lucky to be alive after her car plunged into a frozen river.
Temperatures in the midwestern United States, have dropped to a record low, and for one woman, the sub-zero weather turned out to be a good thing.
Anne Spiess, 54, of Maplewood, Minnesota, may have been saved by the freezing temperatures.
On Tuesday morning, she got into a car accident and her Ford Ranger skidded on an overpass. It hit the guardrail, which broke, and she landed on a river that was completely frozen.
If the river would not have been frozen the 54-year-old may have drowned as her car dove head first into the river.
When paramedics arrived, they found Spiess, who was wearing a seatbelt, to be conscious and was taken to Regions Hospital where she is said to be in good condition.
Police are still investigating the accident, but they believe that black ice may have been the cause of the accident.
