A woman was sentenced to 31-years in prison for the horrific treatment of a 13-year-old.
Viviana and Brandon Pernell Gunn of Seattle, Washington, agreed to have the boy live with them, but rather than helping him, they tortured him.
The first time the couple found the boy stealing something from them, they began beating him with an electric cord. Since then, they had “training sessions” to teach the boy how to behave.
The “training sessions” were actually torture sessions. The couple beat the child, burned him, cut him and put nails through his hand.
The 13-year-old boy moved from Georgia, to live with his half-brother and wife, with the hope they would be good role models for him.
However, the couple tortured the boy, locked him in their garage and made him stay in a dog kennel.
They withheld food from him, and gave the boy water and sleeping pills so he can sleep in the kennel.
They repeatedly cut the boy with a hot knife, hit him with different objects and used a commercial grade gun stapler on him.
The boy finally managed to escape. He lived in an abandoned house before he was found.
When he was taken to a hospital for observation, a doctor found cuts, stab wounds and thick scars on his arms. They alerted police to the boy’s horrific torture.
Doctors said that he had numerous infections from the open wounds. He also had a piece of metal, possibly from when the couple put a nail in his hand, authorities said.
Viviana Gunn, 34, pleaded guilty to using a hot knife, hammer, staple gun and baseball bat, to systematically and repeatedly abuse the child. She was sentenced to 31 years in prison.
Her husband, Brandon Pernell Gunn, 27, pleaded guilty to the savage beatings and torture of his 13-year-old brother.
He faces a similar sentence when he appears in court for sentencing.
