(Scroll down for video) A man left many people in tears after he showed extreme love and commitment to his sick girlfriend.

Steve, 39, from the United States, fell in love with a woman while working in China.

A year ago, Steve met Wu Meng of Sichuan, in his office building where they worked.

The two became really good friends. Both had been previously married and have children.

Steve’s wife died in a car accident and he is taking care of his 5-year-old daughter Ava.

Meng divorced after being in an unhappy marriage, and she is living with her 7-year-old son.

Steve said that he fell in love with Meng the first time he met her, and has been asking to be her boyfriend since then, but she politely declined.

“I had just come out of a marriage, I did not want to get into another relationship so soon,” Meng said.

A few months ago, Wu was diagnosed with PAH (pulmonary artery hypertension). The doctor said that the condition is very serious and gave her less than a year to live.

Sichuan supported her and was at her side at the hospital. The two got into a more serious relationship.

Steve made his first attempt to propose to her, but she refused.

“I could not believe that a man would marry a dying woman, and I do not want to be a burden to anyone,” Meng said.

Meng said that she told Sichuan that she would not marry him unless he proposed to her in Chinese and in public.

She believed that he would never do that, but Steve surprised her.

He proposed to her in their office building in front of many people, and he proposed in Chinese. He said “I love you, I want to marry you.”

Meng was deeply moved by his efforts and she said “yes.”

“No matter how difficult it may be in the future, I want to spend my life with her,” Sichuan said.

He also said that he planned to bring Meng back to the United States for better treatment when her condition stabilizes.
