A police officer had sex with his underage family member.
His actions became known when the teenager became pregnant with his child.
The former Tarrant County deputy sheriff claimed that he only had sex one time with the 16-year-old when he accidentally got her pregnant.
Jonathan Lewis Helm, 41, was convicted of sexual conduct and sexual assault of a child, who was 16-years-old.
He was then sentenced to the maximum penalty for each count, according to the District Attorney’s office of Tarrant County.
The 16-year-old is a family member of Helm.
She later gave birth to a healthy baby girl.
The girl initially claimed that the baby was fathered by a boy in her school.
However, she later came out with the truth and told her family that Helm was the father.
A DNA test confirmed her claim, according to court documents.
Helm was sentenced to 30 years in prison for the crime.
