(Scroll down for video) Police were called to an emergency room after a 3-year-old was brought in with severe burns and broken bones.
Police arrested a woman, who abused and severely injured the child.
Police said that Teresa Hernandez, 33, of Woodland, Washington, is the stepmother of the young child, but instead of caring for him she abused the child.
Hernandez used a hot iron to burn the back of the child’s hands and then pushed him down a flight of stairs, causing a brain injury after his head hit the tiled floor.
When her boyfriend came home, Hernandez told him that the child was hurt when he accidentally fell down the stairs.
The boy’s father insisted on taking him to a doctor where it was discovered that the child was pushed and intentionally hurt.
Police interviewed the father of the victim and Hernandez. She confessed to the crimes after trying to pass it off as an accident.
Hernandez was arrested and faces two counts of first-degree child abuse.
Hernandez and her husband have four children and stepchildren between 1 and 7-years-old. They were all taken into protective custody while police are investigating the incident.
Police said that at this time they do not believe that the father knew about the alleged abuse. Police are still investigating.
