The government of China, came up with a new way to stop people from committing suicide by jumping off bridges, the nail board.
Over the years, police have rescued suicidal people from bridges in the city of Liuzhou.
Now, construction workers installed nail boards on the arches of the bridge to prevent people from climbing over the top and jumping to their deaths.
The city has seen an increase in suicides in recent years due in part to economic and emotional factors.
China’s suicide rate is among the highest in the world, 22.23 per 100,000 people.
In Shanghai, many people who seek help from suicide prevention hotlines, are said to be white collar workers or unemployed people.
According to reports, the highest volume of calls come in late at night or early morning.
70 percent of callers to the suicide prevention hotlines are said to be between 20 and 40-years-old.
There were more female callers than men, and most of those seeking help were single, according to reports.
