A man and his girlfriend were arrested after they forced his grandmother to write them a check.

Mark Christopher Kerpash, 28, of Missouri, was arrested late Wednesday night, at a mobile home in Winfield, along with his girlfriend, Jennifer Coleman, 27, of Fulton.

The two were charged with four felonies, including elder abuse, robbery, theft and financial exploitation of an elderly person.

Police said the attack occurred Monday night, when Kerpash went to his grandmother’s house in Hawk Point, and asked for money.

The 85-year-old woman initially refused to sign a check for $500 but when Kerpash became enraged and threatened to kill her, she complied, authorities said.

As she wrote out the check, her grandson became agitated because it took her too long.

Kerpash then punched his grandmother and ordered her to move faster, causing the woman to fall to the ground.

The woman drove the getaway car as the pair drove off, leaving the elderly woman on the ground.

She was taken to a local hospital with a broken pelvis.
The two were later arrested for the crime.
