Brooklyn Police said that a 73-year-old man was struck and killed by a backhoe that was moving in reverse as it was clearing the snow from a street in the Brighton Beach neighborhood on Monday.
The incident occurred shortly before 12:00 p.m., as the man was crossing Oceana Terrace, in the middle of the block.
Police identified the victim as Stanislav Chernyshov.
A private company was hired to clear the snow on the street, which runs through a residential development. It was not a city owned or operated snow plow.
Police launched an investigation into the incident, and they do not believe that charges will be filed.
