A woman received a light jail sentence or a small fine for pulling off her husband’s testicles during a heated argument, a court in South Africa has ruled.

Gladys Chauke was initially sentenced to one year behind bars or a fine of R3,000 ($271). However, a Superior Court has lowered her sentence to three months in prison or a fine of R1,000 ($90).

The Superior Court said that the judge who originally sentenced Chauke should have considered mitigating circumstances such as a crime of passion.

The assault occurred at the home of the husband’s secret girlfriend.

Chauke, 27, locked herself with the two of them in a room. After the husband allegedly attacked her, she grabbed his testicles, hit him in the head with a wooden spoon and bit him.

The husband manages to flee by jumping out of a window. Witnesses saw blood gushing from his testicles. The man was transported to a local hospital for treatment.
