A man was arrested, charged and convicted of misusing the police telephone system after allegedly calling police to ask about his taxes, police in Florida said.
St. Petersburg Police said that a local 51-year-old man was arrested on Sunday night, after drinking alcohol and asking police if his tax return had arrived.
James Mahoney told a police dispatcher that he was “messed up.” When police officers arrived to his home, which is located in the 5000 block of Haines Road, he was still on the phone with the dispatcher. When officers asked why he called them, he said that he wanted to know if his tax return arrived.
Mahoney was charged with making a false 911 call, a misdemeanor, to which he pleaded no contest Monday morning.
He was sentenced to two days in jail and released. He was also ordered to pay a fine of $450, according to court documents.
