A teen girl was arrested, charged and convicted of crimes similar to adultery after opening a Facebook account, prosecutors in Syria said.
The execution took place in the city of Rakka. The girl, 14-year-old Fatoum Al-Jassem, was sentenced to death by stoning by the Al-Reqqa court after being arrested by rebel forces.
The court ruled that having a Facebook account was equivalent to adultery and therefore, she was sentenced to death.
The court also described the opening of a Facebook account as an act of great evil that deserved severe punishment.
International human rights activists have condemned the execution as extremely inhumane.
