Brooklyn Police said that a police officer shot a woman on Saturday afternoon, after she lunged at them with a large kitchen knife. The incident occurred at her apartment, which is located on Brooklyn Avenue near Bergen Street.

According to the initial investigation, the parents of the 30-year-old woman called police to complain about their mentally disturbed daughter. When police arrived at the apartment, her parents let them in.

When the police officers approached the woman, she lunged at them with a 15-inch knife. An officer fired a shot and hit her in the torso.

The woman was taken to Kings County Hospital, where she was in stable condition. Officers found a total of three knives in the apartment.

Two police officers were taken to a local hospital for treatment of minor injuries, and no charges were filed.
