Women’s rights organizations are outraged after a teen who was gang raped, was convicted of committing indecent acts.
The incident began after an Ethiopian woman in Sudan, filed a complaint with police that she was gang raped.
The abused 18-year-old was three months pregnant at the time of the attack. However, she was arrested after a video of the gang rape was circulated on social media websites.
According to the indictment, three men admitted to having sex with the woman and two men admitted to uploading the video to the Internet. The three rapists were sentenced to 100 lashes for adultery, while the two, who uploaded the video to the Internet, were sentenced to 40 lashes for distribution of indecent material.
The woman who was raped, was sentenced to one month in prison. She was also ordered to pay a fine of 5,000 Sudanese pounds ($800).
Initially, the woman faced a sentence of death by stoning for adultery. However, the adultery charges were removed after she proved that she was divorced.
