A little boy is dead after accidentally hanging himself while playing a game in his classroom, police in South Africa said.
Mpumalanga Police said that a nine-year-old boy died on Tuesday, in what is believed to have been a game that went wrong.
The boy was found hanged at the Georgedale Primary school, which is located on Shezi Main Road, at 12:00 p.m. According to the initial investigation, the student passed out in front of his classmates.
The boy was found with a piece of rope with a plastic end, similar to those used in a raincoat. It was wrapped around his neck, through a desk and tied to a window.
The other children had not been aware that their friend was in distress when he disappeared under his desk. When the boy was discovered, he was still alive, but struggling to breathe.
The teachers took him to a nearby hospital, but he died shortly thereafter. A police spokesperson said that no foul play was suspected.
A psychologist will be on the school premises to advise students and teachers.
