(Scroll down for video) Eight people were rushed to hospitals after they suffered serious injuries when a Crown Heights area building collapsed, rescue workers in New York said.
The incident occurred on Wednesday, according to firefighters in Brooklyn.
The injured were taken to Brookdale and Kings County hospitals, after the vacant three story building, which is located at 1916 Prospect Place collapsed. The incident occurred about 1:00 p.m.
The Fire Department New York said in a statement that their conditions are not considered life threatening. The building was in the process of being demolished at the time of the collapse.
Neighbors said that the building was in terrible shape and they feared it will collapse on the workers, which is exactly what happened.
According to the initial investigation by the Building Department, the interior demolition work was being done illegally and without permits. The investigation is ongoing.
