A family was left devastated after a young boy decided to end his life.

Sanele Magcaba seemed to be a happy 9-year-old boy. However, one day, he was found hanging from a tree outside his home.

The child’s father, Bheko Magcaba, 45, of Durban, South Africa, said that Sanele spent most of his time playing indoors rather than with other children outside.

On Monday, the 9-year-old’s brothers brought home movies and they all sat down to watch it.

While watching one movie, Sanele Magcaba’s brothers constantly sent him to the kitchen to prepare food for them and to do other chores.

At one point, his 15-year-old brother ordered him to check if the door was locked, but the child never returned.

“We were shocked when our 6-year-old sister ran into the house and said that Sanele was hanging in the yard,” 15-year-old Khombokuhle Magcaba said.

Sanele had complained and got angry, when he was sent on several occasions to go and do things while his siblings were watching the movie.

“I’m still trying to determine if there were other things that could have pushed Sanele to suicide,” the child’s father said.

“He didn’t leave a suicide note, and I’m looking for answers,” he added.

“I do not think that being interrupted during a movie might be the only factor that led him to take his life,” Bheko Magcaba said.

Captain Thulani Zwane said that police have opened an investigation.
