Authorities sprayed glow-in-the-dark paint on reindeer to keep them from dying.
In an attempt to stop reindeer from getting into road accidents with cars, authorities in Finland began spraying a special paint onto the skin and antlers.
Authorities are experimenting to see how the spray holds up in different weather conditions.
“The goal is to prevent traffic accidents,” Anne Ollila, chairperson of the Reindeer Herders Association, said.
So far, the experiment is a success when sprayed on their antlers because they can be seen everywhere, according to Ollila.
About 4,000 reindeer die in traffic accidents each year in Finland, the Finnish Game and Fisheries Research Institute said.
