A toll collector was arrested and charged with theft after he allegedly stole cash by registering trucks as cars, and pocketed the difference, police in New York said.
The Metropolitan Transportation Authority said that 22-year-old Anthony Peleg, was arrested on Thursday, after taking about $3,500 for himself.
Peleg stole the money in just 16 days. Drivers of cars using the Verrazano-Narrows Bridge have to pay $15 – but truck drivers have to pay between $30 and $58 – depending on the number of axles they have.
Peleg was hired for a period of one year as a temporary toll collector, but was quickly fired after not showing up for work. Peleg was charged with grand theft and falsifying business records.
