The Islamic Jihad terror organization said that Israeli warplanes have fired and killed several of its operatives.
The Israeli airstrike on Tuesday, killed three Palestinian terrorists, and the Israeli military said Israeli aircraft targeted members of Islamic Jihad, who had fired a mortar bomb against its forces.
The IDF confirmed that they fired missiles at the targets. Islamic Jihad said its men had attacked the Israeli soldiers after they entered the Gaza Strip. Earlier in the day, the Hamas government said that an Israeli unmanned aircraft crashed in their territory.
The Israeli military said the drone went down because of a technical failure.
“Terrorists affiliated with the Palestinian Islamic Jihad in the southern Gaza Strip, fired a mortar shell at IDF forces. An IAF aircraft responded immediately in order to prevent further attacks on Israeli civilians, and targeted the terrorist squad. Hits were confirmed,” the Israeli military said in a statement.
“Quick action and operational capabilities are key to combating terrorist activities against Israel and our forces,” Lt. Col. Peter Lerner said. “Terrorists must know that there is a price to pay when participating in aggression,” he added.
