A teen was left bewildered after a British supermarket refused to sell him a package of plastic spoons because he wasn’t 18 years old.
The 16-year-old boy was told he was too young to buy a pack of plastic teaspoons at a Tesco location in Lancashire.

Liam Whelan was sent by his stepmother to buy plastic spoons. His stepmother, Yvette Whelan, said the supermarket’s decision was dumb. Tesco apologized for the incident.

Whelan said she sent Liam to buy spoons because he and his brother Josh, kept losing them. She admitted that she thought her son was lying about the incident at first.

Whelan said that Liam was very embarrassed by being sent home empty handed. “We apologize to our customers for any inconvenience this caused,” a Tesco spokesperson said in a statement.
