Popular football referee commits suicide after his wife falls ill

A football referee killed himself after becoming extremely depressed because his wife has fallen ill.

The 46-year-old Ghana Division One League referee, Samuel Manukure, committed suicide by hanging himself at his home in Aponapono.

Family members of the deceased revealed that Manukure took his life due to the chronic illness of his wife, who has brought hardship and enormous debt to the family. Manukure left behind his wife woman and his child.

Manukure’s cousin Yaw Asiedu, said that the victim was suffering from depression for some time. Asiedu also said the victim was alone in the house as he went to a farm.

When he returned, he decided to wash his dirty clothes, but realized that the wire used to hang the clothes had been removed. He went to ask his cousin about the wire and that is when he found him hanging.

A brother of the victim however, claims that someone killed him. According to the brother, the victim was the president of a local political party and he had received several death threats.

The body was sent to the Medical Examiner’s Office for an autopsy in order to determine the cause of death.
